Codes not working on Gecko (Xenoblade Chronicles)

Hi all,  I'm brand spanking new at this so assuming that I know nothing is giving me a bit much credit.

I'm trying to use codes on a NA copy of Xenoblade Chronicles and absolutely nothing is working.  I've done everything as accurately as various Googlings tell me to:  I've installed homebrew and Gecko, but every single time I try to boot the game Gecko (v1.9) tells me "No SD card found".  Not just "No Codes Found", a full-on no card found.  I've tried multiple codes from every region.  The only time I've had the slightest modicum of success was trying an AP Modifier code (PAL region, I believe).  I finally (for the first and only time) got a "SD Codes found...Applying" message, but the game froze while my save was loading.

My SD card looks like this (minus the extraneous BS):

apps:
---->Gecko1931
--------->boot.elf
--------->icon
--------->meta
codes:
---->SX4E01.gct

I've tried downloading the .txt and .gct files straight from geckocodes, I've tried making my own .txt file with the codes and converting them via Codemanager.  My Wii recognizes that a card is inserted on the home screen (the icon will ping and light up), but when I open Gecko from the homebrew channel and change the settings (my way of checking, because it will either say "Changes Saved" or "No SD found") all but that one time did it not recognize that a card was inserted.

My card is a SDHC, is that the problem?  Will it only work with a regular SD?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as I have only just started experimenting with these programs.
