"Kirbys return to dreamland disc update

im scared to upgrade my wii (currently at 4.3u) because i am not sure if disc updates are safe or not. But whenever i try to play the shooting mini games in kirbys return to dreamland , it freezes..... could this be due to not updating. I bypassed the update by loading the game with gecko... any suggestions????

Loading the game with Gecko OS does not bypass the update, per se.

Updates have two pieces.  1) IOS updates.  2) System Menu updates.

You need 1) in order to play the game.  Gecko OS will install 1) from the Update Partition of the disc.

You do not want 2), because 2) usually tries to erase homebrew.  Gecko OS will not install 2) for this reason.

Never, ever use the Disc Channel to load the game; the Disc Channel will always install 1) and 2).
