yes, i have tried it with a new usb cord. the darned thing still wont make the "hot-key plug in noise"  but on occassion when my laptop comes out of hybernation it will indicate that an attached driver has malfunctioned.

also i couldnt find exactly what you were indicating.. but i did find the Device Instance Path. and it indicates...USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&199394E6&0&3

sooo...... that basically means the gecko is gone and i need a new one? or is there some magical software fix that could correct it? :(

Yeah, that means the VID and PID are 0, which means there are no descriptors coming back.

You could try to make sure the PCB is clean...but if the cord isn't the problem, then your FTDI chip might have bit the dust.  =(

IRS

... :'(! and ok.. the PCB is? lol the main USB connector piece? its sparkling style clean.. no dust.. nothing.. then the FTDI is? lol..... itd help if i made these things.. xP

thanks for helping :) grr you breakable equipment >_>

dcx2

PCB = printed circuit board.  Just look and see if anything screams out to you that it needs a cleaning.

The FTDI chip will be closest to the USB connector.

PCB looks nice and clean.. ill look as detailed as i can manage. alright ill try checking those out ;) really hope theres a way to fix it that doesnt involve waiting forever... lol

ok now im getting annoyed.... :\ i got a new gecko.. it reads on the XP system, but it will not even make a hot key plug in noise, show up in device manager or anything. the only device that shows up in device manager remotely similar to what the gecko is.. i think its just a bugged up program :\ and somehow it "auto installs" itself everytime the computer is turned on -.- so i have no clue what the heck is going on :\ anyway to get the USB gecko to install properly on my windows 7?
