(the other topic I made on using Gecko OS got locked; I'm not sure what I did wrong)

These are the steps I'm making for myself in order to use Gecko OS in on my Wii.

Okay, so I put the Bannerbomb v2. folder on my SD card, put the boot.dol from the HackMii zip into the root folder of the SD card, go to the SD card menu, and follow the instructions until the Homebrew channels installed on my Wii?
If that works, what are the next steps for using programs like Gecko OS? I heard the Homebrew channel uses files from an "apps" folder on my SD Card. Do I just download the Gecko OS zip file, dump the folder from the file into the "apps" folder on my SD card, and call it a day?

yes put the boot.dol file into the root of your SD card.
then put the "aktn" folder from the abdf6.zip into private/wii/title/. (private/wii/title/aktn)
I'm not sure what Firmware you have, but maybe u must klick on the SD Card menu.
then you boot into the hackmii installer menu.
there are some options.

*Install The Homebrew Channel
*Install DVDX
*Install bootmii (as bootmii2)

if you have installed the homebrew channel, you must put the gecko os app into the folder "apps" on
your SD Card. Start the homebrew channel and choose Gecko OS.
lolz

Quote from: BootMii.orgWhat does "The installed boot1 version prevents a boot2 install mean? Are you going to fix it?

No, it can't be fixed. Installing as boot2 is the most useful way to install BootMii, but it requires that we exploit a particularly silly bug in a part of the system that can not be changed under any circumstances. Nintendo finally fixed this bug in new Wiis that were released sometime in 2008. We have looked for a suitable replacement for this exploit, but have not found one, and it does not seem likely that anyone ever will.

I'm planning to use The Homebrew Channel, so I think I can avoid this problem.

Once I get to actually pulling on Gecko OS on Homebrew, how would I use the cheat codes people made for games like, say, Super Mario Galaxy? Is there a screen when I pull up Gecko OS where I type in the codes, or do I put some sort of file on the SD Card that Gecko OS will read off of. I'm trying to find out as much information as I can about this before I start messing with my Wii. I heard there's something called "bricking" where a Wii gets locked up by screwing with it too much, which I'll read up on later

You go to the code page you want on http://geckocodes.org and at the top there's a button that says "gct ->". Click that, click "add codes", check the codes you want to use, click "download gct". Then you put that gct file (don't change the name) on the sd card like this:

SD:\codes\RZDE01.gct

(RZDE01 is the game ID of the NTSC-US version of Twilight Princess; the gct file name must be the game ID.)

Once the gct is on the SD card in the "codes" folder, Gecko OS will apply the codes when you launch the game. (enable "SD Cheats" in Gecko OS option menu)

Ah, so you create the gct file you need directly on the Geckocodes page. It's starting to come together for me.

Thanks for the help. guys. I'm just going to think over all this before I make the big jump.

..ooh, Metal Slug Anthology codes! Fun!

I highly, highly suggest the homebrew app FTPii.  It creates an FTP server on your Wii.  Then, you can use an FTP client on your PC, like FileZilla, to upload the new gct file directly to the Wii's SD Card, without having to take it out of the Wii every time you want to change codes.
