Hello there,

I just want to know that if I wanna start hacking WII Games, what are the things that one needs in order to accomplish this task? And what is this program called  (and where can you get one???) where it shows some hexadecimal values when you are looking for codes (not sure if this is what they called WIIRD GUI???).

Thanks so much for any replies and all the outstanding jobs that the Wii hackers are doing out there. Keep up the excellent work guys.

You need a USB Gecko (they're kinda hard to find, Romaap says there's an Australian and a Spanish store that still have some).  Without that, you can't use WiiRD, which is the app that we use to hack games.  You also need a soft-modded Wii that's running Gecko OS.

I refuse to accept the term softmodding in combination with Gecko OS or the Homebrew Channel. To use cheats, you need HBC + Gecko OS and to create cheats you need an the same + an usb gecko, a pc and the Wiird PC application.

Okay...

A retail Wii checks for a digital signature before loading an application.  Homebrew applications (like Gecko OS) do not have the appropriate signature, and so there is a little extra work in order to load them.

At first you need to launch an exploit (bannerbomb is popular right now) in order to bypass the signature requirement.  But we don't want to run the exploit over and over again, so we use it to install an application (the Homebrew Channel, HBC, via the Hackmii Installer) that easily loads a variety of homebrew without checking for digital signatures or making you launch an exploit.

Once you have installed HBC, you can load Gecko OS in order to use codes, kinda like a Game Genie or GameShark.  However, you need a lot more to make codes.  As WiiPower said, to make them you need a USB Gecko.  Plug that into your Wii's GameCube memory card slot B, load Gecko OS on your Wii, attach the USB cord to a PC, install the drivers and load WiiRDGUI on the PC, and then begin hacking.

By the way, USB Geckos are hard to find (I believe there's an reseller in Spain and another in Australia?).  You should be sure you're serious about wanting to hack before trying to find one.
