I've been thinking.since sytem menu 4.2 was bad for homebrew, what problems will system menu 4.3 bring to homebrew users? :(

from the knowledge i have i could say that theres another major IOS whipe delete and reinstall many hombrew apps permenetly deleted as well as possible and then possibly harder to reinstall hombrew and cIOS patches

Not really sure.. did Nintendo actually announce any plans for real new features? Not that I know^^

So yes, it's quite possible that a Sysmenu 4.3 will be again completely targeted at homebrew - much like 4.2. I just wonder whether they try to force update boot2 again (boot2v5?) just to wipe BootMii - again!

Dark Chaos

More likely they probably make new updates every year. That is why i am thinking ahead. :)

Nintendo will probably try to kill homebrew again, and add a small "improvement" as a lure, as they allways do :-\

Dark Chaos

btw they might try to prevent the use of Bannerbomb >:(

Um, why depressed? They tried to block the Twilight Hack.. they tried to block Bannerbomb in 4.2.. they certainly will try blocking Bannerbomb again.. and surely they'll block Indiana Pwns alongside.. US users can be happy as blocking Stacksmash will be VERY difficult as long as Nintendo does not start real-time patching applications..

Codyk

lol ya and they most likely make it harder to over write IOS's as well and probley blocking cIOS is probably  in there as well

Modchips were never the way to homebrew.. modchips were the entrance to backup copies.. and back then: even to imports. Modchips rewrite the DVD drive of the Wii so that it loses the ability to seperate originals and copies.. so the Wii software can very barely prevent it as well: all process required for playing copies is done on the DVD drive. Some games brought some copy protections.. Mario Galaxy brought the 001 fix, NSMB now the BCA check.. both of them seem to be defeated as modchip producers already provide updates (for certain modchips) which fix the NSMB issues (Mario Galaxy is fixed for long).

The only major change of 4.2 when it comes to modchips is: before it seemed the Wii only checked the DVD header for the region coding.. this was unsigned and unencrypted.. so it was pretty easy to simulate specific game regions in real-time. The partition header (encrypted and signed) also contains region information which was so far ignored by the Wii.. 4.2 finally changed that and as of such current modchips are unable to provide a region-free functionality to modchip owners (Priiloader does the job though, or.. Gecko)

How do i use these modchips :p what do they look like. :P

Small.. piece of silicon...some plastic.. an IC.. and put it on the Wii DVD drive.. or between mainboard and DVD drive.. whatever..

Dark Chaos

wow  i dont know how to open a wii.but i dont need modchips anyway. :p
Nintendo is really trying hard to stop hackers from hacking the wii. :(
