Hi hi!

I got some question related to the region free feature of the gecko os; but first let me introduce the situation.

Ill probly buy the next japanese naruto game on the wii, Naruto gekito ninja taisen EX 3, if i could find a good way to boot imports on my us wii.
So i started to look for any good alternative to load import on my wii; and i finaly stumbled on gecko os.

At the moment my wii firmware is at 3.2 u, btw one of the very first generation hardware! ; wich mean i could fully install bootmii if i would like to. (i bought my wii the first day it was released), and i have the datel freeloader(wich i know only work if my os =< 3.2),  and finaly HBC 0.8 (yeah yeah.. i have to update it :P)

So i was wondering, i remember some time before, some people were bricking their wii by playing import, because of the update/patch sector on the wii game disc; Does geckos os prevent this?
I know with bootmii i could do a save of my nand, and restore if anything happend.. but w/e, i would like to not have "the need" to use that restore option.

And from what i understand (from reading several post, and review... etc) i just have to switch the option in gecko os, Press B to do a Reboot wich will apply the config temporaly for the next boot, and i should be able to play my favorite import with some ease, i'm i right?

Is there anything else i should know or be aware about? to prevent any case of half brick or bricking?

Ohhh and By the way, i plan to update my wii to 4.0. Will that change anything to play imports, or affect gecko os?

Thanks  :)

GeckoOS blocks all updates. Just pop it in and run.

And it includes the code handler. The Wii equivalent to "AR" codes (just better).

4.0 doesn't interfere with GeckoOS itself but several extras is blocked. The rebooter (reboot the system menu with hacks, a temporary alternative to preloader) is smoked. Not sure if this has been fixed in the latest version but I do not think so.

Also the VC/WiiWare channel hook does not work.

If you're just going to use the region free and code handler then you'll be fine.

Great! thanks for the reply =]

Beside that, the only thing wich know i dont think i fully understand is the purpose of the rebooter option.

So if i get it right; the rebooter allow to do some "deep" hacking in a game; lets say as example load ssbm with modified texture?
While code handler give quick, but limited memory edit; most common memory hack; just like AR and GS.

I'm i right or just really off? :P

I mean i'm wondering if i would ever have situation where i would need to use the rebooter for playing an import; but from what i understand it would only needed to do deep modification of the game.. right?

The rebooter is mainly for "multi-dol games" :) if you load those games normally through Gecko then it will loose the codes when you load another dol (like the Masterpieces in SuperSmash Bros Brawl), but with the rebooter it will keep the codes.
With the rebooter you could also add codes to the system menu, like moving the DVD channel and copy those protected safe files.

GREAT! ;D

Yesterday i did my 3.2 -> 4.0 upgrade.
- Installed bootmii; HBC 1.0.3, dvdx, bootmii as boot2
- made backup of nand
- booted gecko os 1.9.1~
- and it fully booted my naruto gekito ninja taisen ex 1!!;  a game wich i never tought i could ever play! D: (yeah i bought that game before i could even get a freeloader... lol; even with datel's freeloader that game never did worked!)

Awsome, thanks for all the help! And keep it up, Gecko os Is awsome!

There is one thing tough, when i try to boot my gamecube game "naruto gekito ninja taisen 4" i get an error in the main menu. Searching in the forum, i discovered it was called the "cube" bug (or something similar); where i have to eject the disc Right before pressing start to get in the main menu.

I was wondering something; is this a bug related to the gecko os? or its related to the game and this booter specificly? Or related to booting a gc game?
I mean if i could find another gcbooter would this bug still occur?  just wondering if in a later release of gecko os, there is a possibility, this issue will be fixed :P
