In the old forums, we announced everyone hacker who posted codes.
This time, you need to be hacker to post codes. So there is a new system to decide whether you can be hacker:

Please apply for the Hacker Checker at http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/extra/hackcheck.php .

What do I get for Hacker status?
You get access to the code posting areas, you can put codes there, and all you like! Hackers also have one super secret sub forum which I do not want to talk about. So get some hacker status?

Wait, wait? Does that mean I can apply for hacker status without having any posts?
Yes but your account is gonna be removed for inactivity after 3 months! Evil

How do you test I am worthy to hack?
The check tests a few of your abilities. All hackers should have those:
  • Conversion from hexadecimal to decimal and vice-versa (5 questions)
  • WiiRd GUI interface (1 question - will required WiiRd GUI 0.9.3!)
  • Wii memory structure question (1 q.)
  • Simple code type questions (3 q.)
  • Wii Sports memory address values (only for European and North American users) (3 q.)
  • Legend of Zelda memory address values (3 q.)

Of course you're only asked questions about games YOU have. Everybody in Europe and NA has Wii Sports! Everybody who has the HBC has Zelda. If you have a modchip and installed HBC that way. Get Zelda some other way but you need it.

But but.. but
This test is not melt in iron! In case your Wii Sports disc is broken or you really do not have Zelda as you're a modchip geek. Contact me directly and we're going through some simple PM questions - tell me a little bit about your Wii knowledge and you're certainly going to get hacker status.

I found the results of X, now I can cheat
Just to note you: 15 out of 16 questions are randomly diced together. It is close to impossible you'd get the exact same questions!

Problems?
Is this system bad? Is it good? This topic is open for discussion!

Even though i have already received a hacker status i will take this test, even how bad the results may be.
With a new system i believe old hackers also need to be tested, and i will do this as an example.
I know i can manage to work out solutions when working with codes i want to do for the games i want to do, but we hackers should really be up for making codes for any game. That's what ill have to say, wish me good luck.

EDIT/Add: Finished the test, i don't think i should have mistaken anything here but if not ill just re-read previous guides to avoid anymore confusion. Send my results anyways, i dumped mem dumps for both games just in case.

I agree with the new system.

i have one issue with this, someone may simpyl give their friend all the answers so they can get a hacker status without that person even making any codes

Jassim is correct in a way here, i think this test should be something people should pass thought. But i hope the hackers in our community can respect the situation and just link the hackers to the usbgecko.com links and tell them to read, i have nothing against the fact that we should help future hackers in the start but not purely with this test. You have to remember that with any internet test or graded homework people can help you, even work but you dont earn experience in the long run... thus you wont be able to make much useful codes anyways.

15 out of 16 questions are randomly generated.. so the questions cannot be answered if you just copy paste the results
the RAM addresses are also random, the test decides for an address in known static memory of Wii Sports and Zelda Twilight Princess.. as all data is random it is not too easy to actually cheat it!

@Fred: I checked your result, you're absolutely out of question with hacker status.. all base questions correct, one error on a Wii Sports related question.. but that might also mean that the random number generator in the end hit an address which wasn't as static as expected.

but then again, they can ask theyre friend to work out the answers for them, i mean its entirely up to you but in my opinion this isnt a very good system and were better off going back to the old one

If you find a way to prove people did not steal codes? That was the problem.. I prefer fakers with hacker title who do not hack rather than people stealing codes to gain hacker status and in the end getting people from another forum thinking they have to hack use because of code stealing!

Besides: I am watching hacker accounts.. if you do not post any hacks then you're getting the title removed as quick as you get it.

And additionally: these "friends" need to have a USB Gecko.. so a random MSN guy "Hey can you help me" won't be able to help at all. If you find a friend with a USB Gecko who helps you cheating through that system.. then you're lucky!

you might want to disable guests from voting in thank you's because there is some noob that is just thanking everything.

I'd do it myself but meh

it's not even in a package setting. mods could change it before.

Just letting you mods know if you guys see this post first :|

Hey... just wondering.  How do you get an account on the usbgecko.com/codes site?

And just a comment. I've never had one person give me someone elses code when asking for hacker status. I have ALWAYS made them post it in a support thread and then have moved it over. People would notice more if they saw someone steal credit in public. PLUS it's not too hard to search for the code before giving away mod status.

just my 2 cents.

BTW.... you can get EVERY value you'll ever need from the USB Gecko memdump server which BTW has it's password leaked thanks to a certain number of hacking attempts...

All someone would need is a calculator, a memdump, and a friend to give em an answer on the WiiRD About page and they're in..

You'd never know because the Test is too easy.  If I were to make a test like that I'd at least make them not obvious questions that can be figured out by reading the codetype page and a few google searches Grin

For Once I think I agree with Jassim. Personally, I don't think giving out access to a forum with server information would have been a good idea. I realize that it's now on a different server and it's not as deadly as before, but that's the kind of thing that would have been a big loophole only a month ago.

I'm sorry i'm just a bit angry.... not sure why.

I wonder.. according to settings, Guest thank yous are disabled.. even the database verifies it for all users.. seems like some nasty bug in the script.. for the hacker test.. I realize memdumps allow to pass it - do I care? Not really - it is just intended to be an extra instance of checking.. yet people with ramdumps could even do codes and well.. as mentioned.. I prefer people having hacker status who cheated rather than people who stole codes and getting hacker status that way. So in the end make the hack test and steal codes unfortunately still work, however in that case we could tell people, we're sorry because we actually do a basic check. However.. if you search for the totally secure webpage.. then it does not exist.

The test indeed is supposed to be easy.. dead easy to admit the truth. However, looking at beginner codes many of them really only use 04, 02 and 00 codes.. asking a beginner "What's the code type to add assembly to [pointer address]+558" would just scare them out. Besides I already mentioned..  And before with the code system I went the same way with support thread and moving over but that didn't work before and that won't work now anymore.

For access to usbgecko.com/codes - please contact James0x57 for access.

I changed the passwords to the memory dump area.. I realize it was a hole, however, I want to continue that area.. When trying to port codes, there's nothing better than a ramdump.. in my former times of a Gamecube hacker it was often not too easy to get to them and therefore I decided to go for a central upload area. I admit.. when it was created the forums were still at usbgecko.com - when moving them to my server, I simply forgot about it.. and left it open with all accesses enabled.. including script upload.. right now, even though it's at another server, script upload works, but script execution is impossible. Which I admit, should have been done in the first place.

Why didn't I do? Who'd expect it.. I ran hundreds of forums.. and even the beloved vBulletin forum Nuke used is pretty to easy to hack, there are several known holes. And that applies to 99% of all forums in the world.. even webpages which are 100% accessible to only their administrator are hackable.. notice how often microsoft.com was hacked in the past. Just I seriously do not care on how people hacked.. what I wonder is: why? What did attract them.. was it the anti cheating club? Or as all people were telling people who felt offending for maybe stealing their codes. I ignore if the codes were stolen or not.. it was just people guessed they were - and if that's reason enough.

Personally I am fed up to even say the least.. so if it happens again.. download to database.. download to forum files.. PUBLIC.. and locked.. if people want to do lame copies.. okay! It's just that I didn't want the codes to disappear.

I agree that a test like this is a good idea, though it was kind of intimidating for a moment. ("You want to post some codes? Sure, after you take this test.")

My problem would be the 3 month limit. I tend to only hack when I get time off from school, (i.e. spring break right now)...
It wouldn't be fun having to take the test every time I find something worth sharing.  :\
