Model Replacement? Is it possible?

Is it possible to replace a model in a game?

And I mean with a model that's not in the game. Like, go into the coding, and replace a characters model info with another game's character's model info?

For example, take Mario's Galaxy model, and replace his Brawl model with it?
Or take King Dedede's Brawl model, and replace Bowser in Galaxy with him?

Or would the game freeze if the character didn't have similair, if not all the same animations? Or would the game take the model, and morph the character into that pose?

Has anyone tested this? I know it's been done with 2D Games, but those are easy, and not quite as cool as a characetr walking around in a different game. Like Toon Link's Brawl model replacing Link in TP! That would work mostly.

So, please respond. And I'm new, BTW, so please don't flame me for being clueless or an idiot. :X

Oh sorry, can this be moved to the Wii Hacking Discussion? I did not see it.

no. because of the different animations and most important: the other configuration of the models. it's not like the Brawl-models etc are based on the models of the other games which are based on each other, no. It's like combining pudding with noodles. (wait, I did that once and it tasted well. okay, like... combining stones and coke.)

As Naraku said, it's not possible to even model swap in the same game unless the characters have the same skeleton and animations, otherwise, it'll crash. And, it's not possible AT ALL to model swap between different games because you can't add something to a game that doesn't have the model in the first place. Hacking can only edit what's in the memory of the game, otherwise, you cannot add to it.

The closest you could get would be to edit the ISO image of Galaxy and edit the textures to match the Brawl ones.

Possible but not easy.

couldnt you create new bones and animations using 3DsMax or Blender and import them into the game? it sure works with Fable: The lost chapters

Naraku2000

you're amusing me.

no, not a chance in hell. it's because of the compression and code type. The game you states is a PC-game, and Wii-ISOs are, and I hope that actually WAS obvious, programmed in a totally other way PC-games are.

Its possible in Xbox aswell u stooge wag. stop putting my post down

But we would have to figure out the material format and skeleton setup.

Basically, they would have to either be based off of someone else's skeleton, or have modified animations and eff files.

It's possible, but it is also alot of work.

Maybe sometime in the future.

I know I sure had fun with my RE4 community doing these types of things.

The game we're talking about is a port from Windows to X-Box or the other way around, dunno, and both installments are made by Microsoft. you can't compare Nintendo with Microsoft, both companies program in completely different ways. You can insert own models in games made for Windows or X-Box with a program that you can use for Windows games, but you can't use it for the Wii. Maybe model replacement CAN be possible in near future, but not with these programs.

You can't forbid my freedom of speech, as well as I can't forbid yours. I don't "put your posts down" on purpose and I don't do it because of you or because I don't like you, I mean, how shall I not like you if I even don't know you. it's just my way to react on certain things, mah apologies. I'd react on any other person the same way if it's not a person I shall have some kind of respect to like parents or teachers or mods :P

Well sorry for getting so angry about such silly things :P

Yes it's possible, however each game for the Wii has its own model format and requirements. Example; SSBB uses the BRRES(common) format while Super Paper Mario has its own unique format.

These formats are completely different from PC formats and their structures are mostly unknown. If you can figure out the file formats, write a PC to Anything converter, then you'll be set.

Also, as stated previously, you can't just swap models or make them without the proper animations/bone structs/textures/etc.
