Ram dump help!

I just need someone to explain the process better of how to make ram dump codes. I have figured out that if you do not have the pointer in the right spot then you will not find out where the memory is and also that if you do not put the pointer in the right spot when you are trying to make the code it will not work at all or just freeze your game.

Please help if you need more information I will post it as soon as you ask.

What do you mean, "ram dump codes"?

Are you trying to write codes by using dumps instead of a USB Gecko?

Or do you mean "non-ASM codes"?  Like using an 04 write to give infinite lives by constantly writing 99 to the address that holds the number of lives?

Im just trying to figure out the process of it like from start to finish. If you can point me in the direction of a good tutorial, or just explain the process yourself. If you can help me with this you are god lol.

Without a USB Gecko, it is almost impossible to write codes.  For example, if you want to find the address that holds your lives, you dump memory and search for something equal to your lives.  Then you go get an extra life, and you dump memory again, and look for any places that are now equal to your new life count.  If you do this process enough, you eventually whittle your way down to a few addresses, and then you try poking them one at a time until you get the reaction from the game that you want.

You can't do this with a single RAM dump.

I think COD should be just left alone.  I've been running into too many peope online that are just cheating to win/cheating to grieve, and I've had to abandon a project I was working on since I was accused of trying to cheat online.  Ironic, since there are codes in Geckocodes that give an unfair advantage ONLINE - I've checked some to see if my project could be abused online.

The only games I've heard of ram-dump hacking is the COD series (specifically online) and Mario Kart.

It's possible to create codes in this way, but it's really hit and miss.  Speak to SharkByte.  I think he made a guide on how to do this for Mario Kart.  Can't see it really applying to any other game, but maybe it will help.
