I don't have the game yet (or the copy I'm going to borrow from my friend since 60 bucks is not worth it for a 10-15 hour game), but according to my friend, Other M has a bunch of updates for the wii, and I'm assuming since there are codes for the game now, there's a workaround, would you guys care to enlighten me in regards to this?

My current system specs are still at Version 3.0/3.2U and I don't have the SD card functionality installed yet.

Oh? Failed to read the rules? You're already dead.

I also still use FW 3.2 and every new game works great.

just boot the game with gecko os, even if you don´t want to "cheat"
works fine, without updating.

Actually, http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Starfall should be of use to you.  Since you're on 3.2, you should use it.  If you update to 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3, then you can use http://wiibrew.org/wiki/StartPatch for similar (actually, more) functionality.  There are some things in each that aren't available in the other, though.

True, but it would be nice to be able to not have to wait for gecko os to load and use gecko dotnet instead.

If you boot games with Gecko OS, and they require an IOS that you don't have installed, it will read from the update partition and only install the missing IOS, without upgrading your System Menu.  So yes, using Gecko OS instead of the System Menu will safely update your Wii.

You could use Starfall/Startpatch, but patching the System Menu gives me the willies.  Too much chance for something to go wrong.  I just try to avoid the SM altogether.

EDIT: btw, Gecko.NET is used while running Gecko OS, not instead of.

benny3t3

okay, I thought that I was using it outside of Gecko os but mabey not

dcx2

Gecko.NET is a PC application; Gecko OS is a homebrew Wii application.  They talk to each other through the USB Gecko.  You can use Gecko OS without the USB Gecko, but you can't use Gecko.NET without one.

benny3t3

Okay,

I understand that, but the reason that I thought that mabey that wasn't true was because when I was on Gecko os with gecko dotnet open, and I used the gecko os rebooter, I returned to the wii system menu, when I got there, in the area in gecko dotnet at the top where the title would usually be (or the "Game identification") there was merely a "()" , and I could still dump the FST of the game (I don't know what FST is yet) I was just checking it out.

dcx2

Oh, I see why you were confused.  When you use Gecko OS' Rebooter functionality, it secretly stays in the Wii's memory after it reboots.  Imagine you were running the System Menu from within Gecko OS.  This is why you were able to attach the debugger and read the FST (File System Table).

Try booting the System Menu without using the Rebooter.  You won't be able to dump any memory, because the code handler (the "secret" that stays in the Wii's memory after rebooting) won't be running.

Ahh, I see, so that would work with Wiird GUI as well, okay, thank you!

when do someone want to dump the FST from the system memory and what can you do with it?? :o
However, as I pressed this FST dump button while running a game, it froze immediatley XD
