No, sadly. Nothing happens. It also doesn't work in the SSE or the fight against the hand(s) in classic.

But you can use item modifiers :)

you have to make sure you activate it while it's loading and not after you're on the stage otherwise it will freeze.

can you use multiple item switcher codes [Phantom Wings], so you can have more than one item switch on. every time i try using more than 2 of those codes, it only applies the last code that i turned on.

"Show WiiRd" on WiiRd GUI then type in that little box on the new window "dump (finename).bin [Value at 80001808] [Value at 8000180C]", it's what I do.

Well, you could look at the port guide that's been posted before and see if that sheds any light on it or you could wait for someone else to port it.

Could someone explain to me the purpose behind the Match Flags code that was made by Heinermann long ago???  Does it work???  And if so, could it help me with freezing the timer at Target Smash???  I'll post the codes here for someone to look at.  I keep trying to understand the meanings behind the values but I'm totally lost on it.  :(
