Noticed some oddness (not a major issue)

But having Gecko OS set to another language other than Default/English will cause it to white screen, but interestingly enough the game seems to contain the Japanese data as well, because I can get to the 'Please Hold the Wii-mote sideways' screen before it freezes up.

Another thing, I noticed on my regular home screen there's a new update that comes with Return to Dream Land, anybody have any further info on whether or not it's safe to install yet?

There's an update on the disc?  Definitely don't do it.  Although I find it odd that we haven't heard about any new firmware yet.

As far as other languages, this game looks like it does checksums on itself, so it's possible that the alternate languages patch the game in a way that causes the checksums to fail.

Disk updates are always similar to System Menu Updates.
They can brick your Wii, if you use Homebrew/cIOS.
For use with caution, definetely!

One friend of mine got a full brick because of the Disk Update...
His Wii was screwed and he couldn´t fix it. :(

If you patch the game to english, Gecko OS patches something in the main.dol, no matter if your system language is english or not. So if the english setting in Gecko OS works, it does not look like a checksum, but a language check.

Actually, if you try to play the NTSC version on a PAL wii with force PAL50/60 it shows a pink screen...

Hmm... it could be due to me not buying a new Nintendo release recently, since I don't have Mario Galaxy 2... but I'm pretty sure I've got the most recent firmware updates... so I dunno, seems odd and google hasn't given me any news regarding it either...

I didnt update my wii for the kirby game and whenever i try to play the shooting mini game, it freezes :( ... is this due to not updating?

dcx2

This game has "anti-tamper" technology.  It sometimes but not always detects the code handler's hook.  thomas83lin has said the protection triggers during challenges; it may also trigger during minigames.

YF191

is there any fix to this without having to update...

Make sure that Gecko OS is not using any hooks, and that the debugger and Ocarina (also sometimes called SD cheats) are disabled.

This means you can't use cheat codes for those parts of the game, though.

EDIT: I should note that the crashing has nothing to do with updates.  The game is detecting changes that Gecko OS makes to it and crashing.

EDIT2: The changes are made when using hooks and Ocarina/Debugger.  So if you don't use those things, there won't be any changes.

i will try that then tell you my results in a sec

wow, it worked.. thanx man i owe ya 1 ;D ;D

I updated my wii since I wanted to play DKCR. Oddly, it seems when you launch a retail disk, it checks to see if you have the correct firmware, so I updated. I thought it was a minor one, but I'm at 4.3. DKCR, then had a disk update too, even though i had already installed it.

To the point. I went out & bought this game, And it had an update, even though I just updated yesterday, so I guess Kirby has a special update in it.

Did you use Gecko OS or the Disc Channel?

The system update screen comes up if your are missing any IOS used by the game, or if the IOS is a lower version then the one the game wants (or if your are on a lower system menu). So... you could probably get it to boot from system menu if you dumped the correct IOS from the disc, then installed just that IOS
