I have my wii and its about 4 years old, give or take a year, and it used to get used just about everyday, all day and was usually left on. a couple weeks ago my wii just stopped reading all the discs and i have tried every game i have, which is about 20. I went to target and bought a lens cleaning kit today, it was not specially designed for the wii but i was told it was all the same basic concept and that it would work. I popped the disc in and nothing happened, it could not read the disc. I took out the game and apparently the disc didnt even spin, so i put in a wii game and that would not spin either. I would like to know if there were an easy way of fixing this where i wouldnt have to spend alot of money. So is there some sort of accessory that i can buy (inexpensive) and fix it myself, or do i need a new wii, which i probably wont buy. If anyone could help i would be very appreciative. Please repond ASAP. I need your help. You can email me at [email protected], or just answer on here.
ps. i have asked this same question on the nintendo forums and they said it broke cuz i used a non official cleaning kit, so is this a lejit reason or just some bullshit way of telling me they dont know whats wrong and want me to buy shit or send my wii in for 100 dollars?

They're BSing you about the lens cleaning kit.  That's just a convenient scape goat.  Your Wii is old and the laser died.  It happened to the PS2, as well...disc drives are more mechanical and less electrical, and therefore they wear out over time and fail.

You could get a replacement optical drive.

Alternately, I suppose you could go with a USB loader*, though you will have issues ripping your game collection to the USB drive if your disc drive has died.  If you have a friend with a Wii that has homebrew on it, that would work.  And you'd also need homebrew, an SD card, and a USB thumb drive or hard drive to put games on.

So, either way, it's going to cost you some money.  Sorry.

*: don't be a pirate.  it's lame.

ok thanks, well goodbye wii, hello ps3
ps get one theyre kickass

That's a shame, because the Wii has the best homebrew scene of all the consoles out right now.

Besides, any game that's on the PS3 is also on the 360, and I think the 360 is a better system overall.

Yeah, I know the original 360 had some issues.  At least Microsoft isn't removing features that you paid for, though.

Besides, the slim 360 has fixed those issues.

Personally, I prefer the PS3 too (yes, I have both PS3 and 360 so I can judge).
And about Sony removing OtherOS, it is very likely that it will get back thanks to homebrew.

As you might know homebrew is possible for about a month now and there are already a lot of interesting Homebrew applications.

It's not even just Other OS.  Sony also removed backwards compatibility with the PS2.

Thats coming back too with a little help from Homebrew.
