Lately, I´m having some issue with "copyright" because of my videos featuring cheat codes. Activision went berserk and started to hunt down every hack/glitch video of their game(s) they could find (even the ridiculous/fake ones) on YouTube and distributed a "copyright strike" for each of them. Has making/showing off ANY codes become illegal or is it unjustified? What do you guys think? Even a few "legit" people got affected by Activision´s "take down" rage...

I think that the ones that they are going after are those cheats that effect online game play and/or premium content of their games.  Or in the case of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, obtaining characters, specials, ect. without actually going out and buying the real figures needed for said game play.

In the case of a cheat device, like action replay, they are not releasing any codes for online cheating as they do not support it.  If any one else makes said codes, it's no longer their liability but instead, it's the code maker(s) that take the liability for their codes.

I myself support the use of cheats but not for online advantages.  This could also be the main reason why I don't play many online games.  LOL

It's covered under fair use, but it doesn't hurt activision at all if they do false claims, so it's really quite unfair, seeing as it hurts people like you and me.

I just stopped making videos. :s

at that point you should probably counter-claim.

It's bullshit that companies are even able to bully people around like that.
YT needs to get a policy that black lists companies from making copyright claims when so many of them are bogus.

Firstly, they took down two of my videos giving me two copyright strikes in quite rapid succession. I submitted a counter notification twice, the first got approved. Minus 1 copyright strike. 1-2 weeks happened nothing, but then their big strike came. I obviously couldn´t access the account anymore to counter-claim, but I was able to get an e-mail about what happened. It said that there were multiple companies complaining about copyright, while it only was one, Activision. I also filled out the contact form under the link "I can´t access my account!" with my e-mail address and reason for appeal (fair use etc.). I´ve waited 2 days so far, no answer. Youtube doesn´t even check if a video is infringing, they just do what a company says.

Fill out the form 30 times a day. :D

As inconsiderate as it is for online coders to code, and further to release the online codes, companies need to realize not all online codes, or should I say, not all codes/mods/hacks in general are bad.

Like when account hopping was going around, there were codes released to block people from accessing your account and messing with it.

Then, when iso modding was big, zeek made a code to block demotion and infections from mods.

There are many that I know of, that reduce the hard core lag the wiis poor system gets, which has no advantages, does it?  There are codes that block glitches from happening, exploits from happening, etc. Etc.

And then there are the "Just for fun codes", like replacing the model of your gun with a "hidden weapon", no harm in that.  I hate how youtube is so "reliable" on big companies to do their censoring for them, at least review the video before taking it down.

As bully has said, it's not all just hackers getting videos taken down, I've seen sooo many normal gameplay videos taken down as well.  Kind of like all the legit MOABs people got on mw3, the company complained and had most of them taken down, purely because they found that they should keep their hidden killstreak "hidden".  Taking the video down doesn't just hide your little easter egg, it also gets that user copyright warnings in their account profile.

Youtube needs to get this shit to stop, it's ridiculous.
Gotta question?  PM me and hopefully I can help ^^

One of my videos has been taken down by Activision too.
Keep in mind that on youtube, anyone can take down any video (I guess.)
Each time peoples steal my most viewed video, I fill a strike request, and the video is removed like 30 seconds later. So I guess you can make a fake account and send strikes on any channel claiming you're working for the KGB or for the taxidermist Chuck Testa.

Not always, they verify if it´s justified to their mind and then operate. I´ve flagged 1-2 videos so far and they didn´t get taken down. It was because of credit stealing on one of my codes.

EDIT:
I´ve noticed something interesting:
If you don´t state their game name, they won´t nail you. Best example is hetoan2, none of his videos got taken down, even though, they are about hacking Black Ops. Probably because Activision doesn´t find your video when they search for "Black Ops Hack/Glitch" stuff.

WiiTutorial1 who also made Black Ops hack videos (and stated the name) got terminated.

I expected this and googled him up.
