Any way to hack a game by using just RAM dumps

I have been helping a guy on youtube with code ideas just to learn that he doesn't own a gecko. So I said that I don't own SMG2 and therefore can't make the code by myself. He kept pressing so I said I'll find a way to work on it. So can this be done.

Pretty much not. Only porting, finding text modifiers and other minor stuff.
On CoD games, however, you can make some simple dvar (direct variable) codes with just ram dumps.
