I am on 4.3, and the disc channel says there is a new update. Can someone test if it is safe? I don't want to brick my Wii or lose my homebrew.

What game is telling you that you need to update?

Mario Party 9. NSTC-U. The weird thing is it usually lets me play it but just now it says I need an update.

You are probably missing an IOS file, or one of your Channel or IOS files is outdated.  If you have run it before on your console, then it is probably safe to download the update.

Have you run any other homebrew programs through the Homebrew Channel or one of the other exploits?

Just letterbomb for my exploit, I've used Gecko OS, Homebrew Browser, Neogamma (I didn't use it for backups), WiiEarth, WiiXplorer, cIOS 236 Installer, d2x cIOS Installer, Savegame Extractor, Savegame Manager GX (Which doesn't work) Simple IOS Patcher 1.14, Visual Boy Advance GX, and Wii64.

I don't see anything there that has modified your System Menu.  If that is the case, and you are at 4.3, then there shouldn't be any danger with allowing the update that is on the game.  However, it might make another homebrew program not function again, if it uses a patched IOS, since I'm guessing that one of your IOS or Channel files is missing or outdated.

My System Menu runs on IOS80, I didn't touch it all. Does that mean it is safe? Also, I trucha patched IOS36 (or whatever IOS I needed to patch) so I can cheat on VC/WiiWare, so would updating disable that?

DO not update. Load up the Gecko Os App and load the game from their to bypass the System Update. Usually have Priiloader activate to disable disc updates

You might have solved the problem but if you don't want to boot up gecko os to play a game that needs an update and you have a bit of extra cash and it really bugs you how you launch. Then buy a cheap wii and use save game manager to swap all your save to the new wii. If done right homebrew Chanel not needed. But I would follow GMO's advice.
In the begining there was nothing. Then it exploded

OK, I got Priiloader to block disc updates and to block Nintendo's update servers, plus a few other hacks.
