I have been contacted by a fellow named Zack. He runs a forum which you can find here.
http://nsogcas.xtreemhost.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=6He would like to re-post codes. I imagine he would be re-posting from the database, with credit of course and the database is the best way to maintain credit.
He would like a blanket permission slip to scrape the database for codes and repost them, but I kinda shy away from that. People sign up for geckocodes and so they are posting their own codes, and hence no permission is necessary.
If you didn't want your codes on this new forum, then you would have to opt-out by telling him not to post your codes. This is the easiest for them, since they just take down codes after people ask them to. This is "opt-out"; repost by default, and if you ask, they remove your codes.
I know I'm willing to let my codes be reposted if my nick is there, but I don't know about others. I believe opt-in would be more appropriate, but it would be hard for them to obtain permission from everyone in the database, especially since some don't hack anymore. However, nobody would ever see their code reposted without permission. This would be "opt-in explicit"; no repost by default, and if they ask, you can let them repost your codes if you say yes. If you say no, or do not reply, then they cannot post your codes.
Another option is "opt-in implicit"; no repost by default, and if they ask, you can say no. If you say yes, or do not reply to their question, it would be an implicit yes and they can post your codes.
Again, at all times appropriate credit would be maintained. What do you guys think?
