Did you launch Okami through the disc channel?  BTW Okami is another great game, you have good taste.  ^_^

Anyway, I'm glad that you got what you wanted out of it.  I hope you had fun with the Dawn codes; I truly think the Encounter Roller is perhaps my greatest achievement thus far.

As far as repair, if it's out of warranty then you're paying no matter what.  I don't think replacing the drive laser is too difficult for anyone with moderate assembly skills.  Maybe I should get in the business of repairing hacked Wiis without over-charging people.  Except I wouldn't want to be the next GeoHot that's for sure...

I did launch Okami through the disc channel; I actually tried Dawn normally and it is in fact my TV.  Very minor thing.  But yes, I took a $40 leap of faith on Okami and holy cow was it worth it.  The Wii is so funny, built for parents and nongamers but enjoyed to its fullest by those with the obscure tastes.

Your Dawn codes were actually what finally brought me over here, you were so great on updating on GameFaqs that I finally decided to look into Smash Stack again.  On top of Frubam's "Colosseum of Doom", to get a JRPG I could radically alter is great, particularly for one that needs every plus it can get.  I actually haven't tried the Encounter Roller yet, still trying to understand the button commands.

I had thought of self-repairing the disk drive, I know there are video tutorials, but then I wouldn't know where to order a proper drive and whether or not I'd need a triwing.  Mine isn't in dire straights, it should be around three years old, just thinking in advance thanks to Nintendo's policy.
