This is called a Pyrrhic Victory.

Sure, US Forces killed Osama bin Laden.  Mission Accomplished.

But we continue to send robots into the sky to drop bombs on Pakistan.  Innocent civilians continue to be the collateral damage of the drone bombing campaigns.  We are not winning hearts and minds over there; we are trying to create the next Osama bin Laden.

Consider this.  Suppose a member of the NRA launched a terrorist attack in Pakistan.  Suppose the former owner of your house was a member of the NRA, and that a Pakistani agent looked up the member list for the NRA, and found your address, and bombed your house, killing your family.  That sounds totally absurd, right?

However, that situation is every day life in Pakistan.  If it was your family that was "collateral damage", then you might consider what intelligence analysts call "blowback".

The longer we reign terror down from the sky upon the innocent under the pretext that there is evil among them, the greater chance we will create the very evil we seek to destroy.

In social militancy, if there is no other Leader that steps up to the mark, nothing will eventuate. Their followers are saying that Osama is irreplaceable, which means no one else is being followed. Unless there is another leader which I don't know about.

Wars last much further into the death of the leader though, this is because there is an excess of stubbornness in people. This can be seen in animals, where a rat being informed to stop a behaviour will spontaneously increase the behaviour that isn't wanted. After the extinction of the behaviour, some past behaviours which were thought to be extinct can reappear. It's all part of normal extinction behaviour.

In other words, the Osama team might go kamikaze! This is most likely be predicted and stopped.

On the other hand, power has an evil affect on good people. Refrence: Psychologist Philip Zimbardo:"The Lucifer Effect" at TED.com (Hence what dcx2 is talking about... in a way)

Amazing what America can do when PSN is down isn't it? (It's a joke, don't hate)
I'm pretty sure Osama shouldn't have used his real address on his psn account... He should have fled when he first heard of the 77 million account details that were lost...

I think he was talking about the seals that went in and took him down (instead of playing CoD).
lol

Arudo

Wasn't there like some IT Consultant dude who was sitting around the area where the incident was happening, posting stuff on twitter before he realized it was the CIA busting in to kill Osama?

There was yet another attack in Pakistan today, killing 80+ people at a military training ground funded by the US. The al Quaeda said it was revenge... It just shows that the death of thier leader has reinforced thier beliefs that the US is a form of evil. In my view, the war against terror is a losing battle for the US, as thier efforts are only making situations more dire.

But then again, what could the US do? Capturing him would lead to further attacks, and the demand of Osamas release. Leaving him put the US and other affected areas in the world at risk. The only option they could take without missing thier chance was to kill him. And for the 9/11 victims or families? I dont believe this is 'justice'. One dead man in the world can't bring loved ones back.

There are al Quaeda based groups all across the world. Terrorism I don't think can be stopped. Lets just hope that the US make good desicions in the future, not to antagonize those groups.

Here's the real mind-twist.  That attack was probably going to happen even if we hadn't killed Osama.

I seriously wouldn't be surprised to see the terrorists demonstrating new behaviours. Blaming the death of Osama on an external cause could be the least of their destructive attitude. They've had more motivating things to perform on so I predict a decline in membership or at least not as many people congregating in revenge than the old true reason to be at war with everyone; the holy land.
