I have read conflicting stories.

I've heard that there was no CV2 code (Sony never asks for CV2?), and that the CC# was encrypted.  This is the official statement, I believe.

Then, I hear that there was a chat log dating back into February 16, with alleged "PS3 modders" claiming that they found plaintext CC#.

And now Sony is moving the data center somewhere totally different, implying a concern over the physical security of the data center...

I don't think it was Anonymous that hacked Sony.  Someone unconnected with Anonymous could easily use them as a scapegoat.

I also agree that stealing private data is bad.  I wouldn't call that thief a "hacker".  They are a cracker.

Agreed; I've been keeping an eye on Anonymous since they went after Visa/Mastercard/PayPal late last year, and they generally make a strong effort to not screw innocent people.  When Amazon kicked out WikiLeaks from their server farm, Anonymous decided not to take out the server farm, because it would affect private citizens too much (they decided not to take out the PayPal API for the same reason, and only brought down PayPal's PR blog).  So yeah, based on Anonymous's recent history, I would say it's highly unlikely that Anonymous was responsible for the PSN credit card cracking.

Yeah, are they trying to spin the public view on what actually happened or something?? Like purposely making people who don't understand think that it was a normal "physical theft"..

It will be interesting if we could ever see April and May's sales numbers for the PS3.

I don't want Sony to fail.  They give a lot of good people jobs.  I just want them to stop being idiots.
