I've been Sony Free since the Rootkit in 2005.  Looks like it was a wise decision...Sony's PSN has been hacked.  Personal data has been compromised.  The safety of credit card information is unknown.  There are reports of unknown charges being made to credit cards that paid for PSN.

They'll just sweep it under the rug with the rest of their should-be-PR-nightmares. It'll hardly make a dent.

But in the unlikely event that they bow out of the console business, we'll all have to celebrate. =)

If it's just name, address, birthday...then yeah, I can see this blowing over.  If they actually lost people's credit cards, this will make a pretty big dent.  Think mom and dad would buy little Johnny any PS3 games if they found out that Sony lost their credit card info?

Oh yeah, don't forget that the PSN has been down for almost a week now.  Hope you didn't want to play your brand new Portal 2 with any of your friends...

I don't think this will be the end of Sony's console business.  But there are millions of gamers who are probably now thinking that paying for XBox Live is a good investment.

hmm, Psn has my CC info, I hope someone didn't get it. I wonder what I could do though if they had.

edit: Guess i'll report it lost\stolen, and get a new one sent.

Yeah same here. :S but since i ran the security because i knew and most of PS Hackers knew it was coming, we were told ahead to sevure our stuff, explains why im on Debug :/

Oh? Failed to read the rules? You're already dead.

Oh yeah, since they stole passwords too, you should also change any passwords that are in common with your PSN account.

I know, right? It was in the hacking-related news month(s) ago. I knew it had to get worse.

Guess i should've followed the hacking news more closely, at least i am insured. In no way do i blame myself. I blame Sony.
I thought about using Fraud Alert, but I think i'll wait before going that route.

Let's say as much for "whiping under the carpet". I yesterday watched two big German news shows and checked BBC One news from UK. BBC One and ZDF featured it and the biggest German news show (having most watchers - figures for yesterday in Germany are revealed: 12 Million people saw it) even had it as its main topic (first topic to be talked about). And they did include that credit card data might have been whiped.

So my opinion is: if they reach the news shows on most-watched TV channels then the damage already IS major! Geohot's court stuff did not reach those levels.

James0x57

Yep yep, I've been noticing it on news and overheard people talking about it.

Hmm maybe both have done mistakes.... Hacking the PSN is fucking bad but spying private datas out is really bad too. I've never seen any online hacker on PSN. The real reason is the so called "Dev Blind" application for mounting your flash and making it writeable and the ISO Loader but I don't see any reasons for banning people with unsigned programms like Emulators lol. Hack online and you will get banned, hmm yea that right. At the end, sony will win for sure. The servers are their own and they can do what ever they want. Yes, Anonymous was able to hack it but the PSN is also comming back for sure in a few weeks/days.

I don't think it was Anonymous that hacked Sony.  Someone unconnected with Anonymous could easily use them as a scapegoat.

I also agree that stealing private data is bad.  I wouldn't call that thief a "hacker".  They are a cracker.
