Last night I tried looking for the chimp timer.  I looked for something that changed once per frame; I looked for something that changed once per second; I looked for floats; and I even looked in MEM1 *and* MEM2, at least twice.  I simply cannot find the chimp timer.

Although I can offer some help for you folks who are suffering, and it's not even technically cheating.  Find a friend, give them player 2's Wiimote, and use Co-Star mode.  Your little buddy can help pick up coins, purple coins, and he can also kill enemies.

is there a timer cheat code for the first mario galaxy?  i wonder if it will work, or if it's similar.  maybe that could give you clues to finding the timer?

I dumped MEM1 and used a hex editor that supports wildcards to search for
