I wanted to try out my usb gecko online just to get more practise, is there anything that needs changing in order for it to work as i tried but it crashed after dump.

you get disconnect if you use codesearch or dump files.
better you look into the memory viewer and turn Auto-Update on.
it's sometimes better than codesearch for online codes and you don't disconnect :)

That could be because your wii doesn't respond to the server for a while (because it is paused).
So the best option could be to search per block, so dont search the whole 80000000-81800000 but first 80000000-800FFFFF, then 80100000-801FFFFF, etc.
