'Afternoon, folks. I have a few questions about Gecko OS, seeing as how I can't really find a reliable manual of sorts for the thing.

First off, I'm sitting here with a purely softmodded Wii, version 4.2U, and running Gecko OS 1.9.3.1 through the Homebrew channel. I also do not have a USB Gecko.
Now, I've had absolutely no problems using the SD cheats with disk-based games. The question is, how would I go about using those for channels - IE, WiiWare games or Virtual Console releases? I've heard talk of various things like "Channel Loader" and "Reboot mode" and whatnot... problem being, none of those options seem to be available to me. I've got "Load Game," which runs whatever disk is currently in the drive, "Options," the function of which should be immediately obvious, "About," also an obvious item, and "Exit," which again doesn't help me much.

With all the talk of modded IOS installations and whatnot, I haven't been able to find a very clear answer on this stuff. Ergo, I'm hoping someone here will be able to tell me what needs to be done in order to make these "missing" functions of Gecko OS available to me. Suffice to say, I'm fairly technically-minded so you won't have to dumb too much down for me, but I'm not the sort who's going to go screwing around with the internal components of an expensive console without having a basic understanding of what I'm doing first.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:
Wow, open foot, insert mouth. I just glanced around at the Gecko OS Game Compatibility forum and noticed someone said you needed to patch IOS 36 for Rebooter. Well, I guess I can make something worthwhile out of the thread: What exactly does patching IOS 36 entail, and what additional functions of Gecko OS will it enable me to use?

It sounds like you're running an older Gecko version, because "Load Channel" should always be there.
Are you sure you got this one here: http://wiird.l0nk.org/projectfiles/Gecko1931.zip

If what you have has a blue border and those four options, you probably have an earlier one.

I assure you, that's the version I installed on my SD card. Now, I did only place the contents of the "HBC" folder in there. The readme under ..\DOL\ didn't seem like it was something I'd need.

Ah, I see now. 4.2
That's okay, you don't need the readme.
If you haven't downgraded IOS 36 yet, you'll need to to be able to load VC games and channels and still use Sys Menu 4.2
If you have Super Smash Brothers Brawl and a Wii that was originally using System Menu 3.2 or earlier, you can use Wii Update File Extractor (WUFE) to get IOS36 v1042 and install it. If you have a Wii that was originally using a higher menu version or are not sure, do not do this, as it may crash your Wii when starting the Homebrew Channel. (If you did this and your HBC is crashing use Bannerbomb to run Trucha Bug Restorer and fix your IOS 36)
Or
You can get Trucha Bug Restorer 1.11 and use that to patch IOS 36. Then, you'll have the option to load channels. (Works on all currently known Wii versions)

Ah, that was poor wording on my part - I know I didn't need the readme. XD I meant the readme made the main.dol file look like something I wouldn't need.

Trucha bug restorer and downgrading IOS 36. Huh, suddenly, I sort of wish I *had* brought Brawl back to college with me. Oh well, I'll give TBR a shot. Thanks for your help - I'll let you know how it turns out.

Success! Thanks again.

You got that wrong. A downgraded IOS36(IOS36v1042) would allow loading channels in Gecko OS, but that's not an option on any recent Wii, because the Wii would just freeze when loading IOS36(v1042).

And TBR does not downgrade IOS36, it allows patching it, that's a something different.

Realized that right after posting but didn't edit when I saw he wouldn't do that, I'll edit now in case anyone else with same problem sees it.
And if your Wii was not a newer one- IOS36 v1042 would still work.
As for #2- I'll change that if it bothers you so much :-\
