Any risks using hooks?

SW Force Unleashed needs a specific hook (AXNextFrame, or something...) and I've been changing the hook option in Gecko OS from Default to AX every time.

My question is, If I leave it to AX and save config will it do anything with other games? or will i just have to keep changing it from default to ax everytime? The other games I have don't need hooks so I usually leave it to "default" lol.

<== confused.

I think, at the worse, all that would happen is that with certain games your codes won't work and/or WiiRD won't connect (if you have a USB Gecko).

However, I did find that when trying to find the most ideal hook in Metroid Prime Corruption by restarting with a new hook method selected that with a few of them the game would crash frequently.  This may or may not have been directly associated with specific hooks but my Wii, it's software and my data is unharmed, even with frequent crashes.

I'd prefer a more knowledgeable person to confirm this for you though, just for clarity.

You can avoid having to keep changing hooks for certain games by using "gameconfig.txt":
Make a text file, rename it to "gameconfig.txt"
Write the GameID followed by a double colon (:)
Then write out the various options for that specific game and copy it to the root of your SD Card.  They will be applied every time that game is booted.

Example for gameconfig.txt:

For the PAL version of SW:  Force Unleashed to set the hook to AXNEXTFRAME...
-------------------- cut here ----------------
RSTP:
hooktype = 7

default:
hooktype = 0
------------------ cut here --------------------

This will make GeckOS use AXNEXTFRAME everytime the PAL version of that game is booted.  For every other game it will use hook 0 (no hooks).  Just remember to have the "default" hook selected for the gameconfig.txt to be used :)

Note, for the NTSC region use RSTE (I think)

There is also a nice long list of the various configurations you can change.  Have a quick read of the documentation in the "docs" folder of GeckOS.

Hope this helped.
