I have Gecko OS 1.9.3 installed in Homebrew Channel on Wii version 3.4u, so far everything is looking great. When I get my codes from WiiRD I create a file in notepad with game ID RHAE01 and Game Name Wii Play, I then copy the 4 codes i want for Tanks! with the title, Then go to code manager open .txt file and insert RHAE01, my 4 four codes pop up in the left side, I check the box beside the code and store data. Then Export it to the SD card, check the file in the card and its there. I exit and go to the Wii, load homebrew channel and go to Gecko , I lanch game and it says the codes are found and applying codes, then it loads game as normal, but the tanks game just plays as if no codes were in. Has anybody had same problem? Am I missing something. Thank You for any help with this!!

Brad

RESOLVED!!!  ;D

elmoreas

Try using Code Downloader or Mega Code Downloader and Cheat Code Manager at wiibrew.org in the applications section and use them in the HBC channel to download the code and set them up. Gecko will then recognize these and you should have no problems. If the code you want is not on the downloaders then type it by hand in notepad and save to the textcode file on your sd card and then setup with cheat code manager and use with gecko os. Using the option of setting them up on the PC may be causing your issue. I have never used the PC option but I have never had issues doing it on the wii. I suggest you read up on how to set up your sd card directory for the downloaders and cheat code manager and then download them and install them and try using them. Then practice typing one by hand to make sure you know how to do it and then you are covered. It is actually quite simple and the instructions on the apps sites are very helpful. Just check them out and you should be fine. I hope this helps.

Elmoreas

Just wanted to say thanks, that worked. For some reason exporting code to .gct on pc just wasnt working. Put in a /txtcodes/ file on SD root, pasted codes in it from notepad, then created an "empty" /codes/ folder on SD root. Went to homebrew channel opened code mang. selected my codes and then went to Gecko, it worked like a charm and now im having a blast blowing tanks up! I dont know why this game is so fun but it is....
Also did the same with "New Super Mario Bros" and now my 5yr old can play w/ no problem! LOL
I just got my Wii a week ago it was a Christmas Present and I am loving all the cool stuff im able to do with it.

Thank You to ALL who contribute codes and help, I think its more fun setting up these cheats than actually using them!!!  ;)

What game are you trying to put codes on? Do you have Homebrew installed already? If you have homebrew installed, you really only need an Apps folder, txtcodes and a codes folder. In the apps folder you should have Gecko 1.9.3 installed along with Cheat Manager. When you save your codes on notepad just drag the file into txtcodes, your /codes/ folder should be empty in the SD root. After you exit and go to the Wii, you open code manager and select the codes you want to use, it will then convert the txtcodes into .gct and put them into the /codes/ folder of you SD card automaticly. You then exit and open Gecko OS and launch the game, from that point on it should be good!  Let me know if you need more help I will do what I can  :)

elmoreas

Ok your best bet is to start all over fresh. Delete your homebrew channel and follow the intructions at this link to reinstall it correctly. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_setup  During setup be sure to install HBC, DVDx, and Bootmii as an IOS. Then setup an SD card with the following folders. They must be exactly even case wise as I type them on the root of your SD card.

apps
bootmii
codes
private
txtcodes
-boot.elf(this is a file not folder)

In the apps section install code downloader, mega code downloader, cheat manager, gecko os 1.9.3 you can get them from the utilities section here http://wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_homebrew_applications each one will unzip into a folder with a .png .xml and boot.dol/.elf file in it and you place them in the apps folder. Then download the codes with the downloaders or type them with notepad and put them in the txtcodes folder if typed if downloaded they go there on their own. Then use cheat manager to process them into .gct files using the codes you specify and they will automatically go into the codes folder. Then start the gecko os and run your game it will then reflect the codes in game that you selected during the .gct processing with cheat manager. If it does not then the codes are bad and it is not a problem with what you are doing but a problem with the codes themselves. For example GI Joe's codes as of right now are all bad except for the infinite health code. If you know for a fact that the codes work but not on your console, make sure all USB devices other than cooling fans are unplugged as that has messed with my HBC apps including Gecko OS before. Also try using an older version of Gecko OS if that does not work, 1.7 is still available via the app homebrew broweser but if you run it you have to unplug all USB stuff as it will hang during bootup if you don't. I will see what I can do about making the contents of my SD card available to you some how. I will post back here with a method once I know how I am going to do it. I hope this helps. If it does great, if not or if I missed your issue entirely let me know and I will do my best to rememdy the situation. Best of luck. Talk to you later.

Sincerely,
Elmoreas

Ok it took over an hour so I hope this works for you but I got my files together and zipped them and uploaded them to my website. The thing is no matter whether you use IE or Firefox the security settings don't like the .dol and .elf files cause they are executables so you have to turn your security to the lowest setting and turn off popup blocker and protected mode to be able to download the file. You might be able to just add my site to your trusted site list but I don't know, now that it downloaded once it works no matter what my settings are so I cannot test that theory. Once it downloads and your PC scans it for threats and it clears, unzip it and you should get a file call HBC SD Card Root Files. Open it and copy and paste everything inside directly to a blank SD card. Note your SD card should be at least 2gb not because of download size but because this will be used to store all your saves and DLC from now on. The SD card should also be freshly formatted to FAT32, quick format will not work you have to do a full format, so you get a clean copy. After you install HBC, DVDx, and Bootmii delete the boot.elf from the root and the aktn file in the private->wii->title subfolder so you can use the sd card icon on the wii main screen without any attempts to reinstall hbc each time you click on it. Now this card can be used as your HBC card and your Save/DLC card at the same time.   I suggest a biggger sd card than 2gb but thats the minimum I reccomend. I personally use a 32gb and it is nearly full I only have 4.08gb's left on it. I did not include all those files as one it would eat up my bandwith limit really fast and two most of it would be useless to you as it is DLC and GH songs and personal pics/vids. I hope this helps. If you have any further trouble let me know and I will try to help. If you try and cannot get the file to download PM me your email address and I will email you the file. The website is at the bottom of this post. BTW I included all my apps as I was unsure of your skill level and what you might find useful but if you do not know what you are doing very very well DO NOT use the apps TBR, CIOS Installer, and CIOS Patchmii as they can brick your Wii if you are not careful. The rest of the apps are user friendly. Though I am providing this at your request what you do with it is up to you and if you use any of the apps that are dangerous and they cause damage to your Wii I am not responsible. I am providing files already available on the net, what I am really providing is their arrangement on an SD card. What you choose to do with it is your responsibility so please do not hold me responsible for anything that may come of it. I hope you understand I am not being mean, just trying to protect myself in a dangerous world. Talk to you later. Let me know if you need any more help.

Elmoreas

Any ideas guys, any more questions?  I will mess around with settings now.

Brad

I dont know for sure but I have heard there are a few "rare" versions of Wii Play that (do not) accept any codes, it may be something you want to look into before making too many changes. Chances are if you can use other game codes  with no problem and that one is the only one giving you issues it may be the case.

Thanks bud.

I am pretty convinced it is me not the Wii since my other one is modded the same way with the same result.

Is there a button command to press in wiiplay tanks to make cheats work? Can you send me a working GCT file?

elmoreas - Do you have any ideas?

Since my last post I have uninstalled cIOS bootmii and reinstalled.
- - Same issue continues.

Getting close to giving up.

Oh! and I also deleted my TXT file, downloaded a new one from code downloader and made a new GCT file with just one code running.

No Luck.

elmoreas

First DO NOT downgrade that IOS by uninstalling CIOS Patchmii it has a 50-50 shot at bricking your Wii from what I hear. Next the SD File Patcher in Gecho OS settings, it is unrelated so don't worry about it I am nearly 100% certain it is not your culprit. I would be willing to be that it is the gamma loader, but I cannot be certain. Try loading a normal game directly through Wii/HBC/Gecko OS with codes on and see if they work. Also is this happening on all games or just the one game? BTW what modchip is in your wii, I would like to do some research on it to see if it has a history of cauing this. Oh and one last thing I noticed you said you are still running 3.4, good for you BTW, try running an older version of gecko os such as 1.7 it could just be that 1.9.3 is the issue itself. 1.7 is available in homebrew broweser and is also available on some sites on the net but I don't know which ones exactly, sorry. I hope something works for you soon, sorry this is taking so long. Best of luck to you.

Sincerely,
Elmoreas

Elmoreas,

I have no modchip. (Is that a problem?)  I installed HBC with the SD exploit.

I have also tried launching the game (not a backup) using the following programs, all said: SD Codes found. Applying

Oncarnia (two of them with different logos but both called version 1.0)
Gecko OS 1.9.3
Gecko OS 1.9.2
Gecko OS 1.07b
NeoGamma R6  <--Installed as a WAD (yes I know R7 is out, should I install that?)

I tried codes with Mario Party 8 and same response SD Codes found. Applying.  Then game plays fine, codes dont work.
- I would like to say that the GCT files I am making are good and work well, but I cant validate that.  I would guess that is my best bet for an issue.

If I had WiiPlay as a backup would that make a difference?

Elmoreas,

Do you think this is possible/where can I look for more info?

Thanks!

GASP!

I just installed NeoGamma R8 Beta3 (HBC)

Message from this prog:

"Your cIOS has revison 5 NeoGamma was written for revision 14 and up, if you get compatibility problems, update the cIOS! Press any button to continue."

- I think this might be a good step to move forward.

So when I launch a game using this app...it just quits to the main menu.  I guess I have to update cIOS to revision 14 or up.

So! Then I updated it to cIOS38 rev. 16

Launching the game with codes using neogamma R8 b3 it still crashes.

Launching the game with codes using Gecko OS 1.9.3 game launches, said codes applied...no codes working.  Same for NeoGamma R6. (using oncarnia as SD cIOS)

I have no idea what my next step can be.

elmoreas

Well, honestly I am at a loss. You just went through my entire trouble shooting repitoire and nothing worked. I have no idea why these codes are not working for you. At this point I am no longer going to be of any help. The best I can do now is try to point you to another source. You can try talking to people on wiibrew.org but forum's, but read their policies first as they are really strict as to what can and cannot be talked about. Also there are others on this site far smarter than I am. You may want to condense your issue into a bullet point list and shorten it as much as possible and make a new post and ask for help from some of the veterans. Finally there is the evil gbatemp website that I caution you from downloading from but using the forums is safe, I have heard people say they allow piracy and some downloads are tainted or outright bugs, but as I said talking in the forums there would be safe. Someone there might be able to help you figure out a solution to your issue. I am sorry I can not be of more help but I am out of suggestions. Just as a note, no its not a problem that you don't have a modchip, I thought from your post you said you did, and second becareful if you update with CIOS as it is a dangerous app. I don't know and doubt that it will help but I just want to caution you about using it. Best of luck to you. Hope you find a solution.

Sincerely,
Elmoreas

he has set up a tutorial and I guess some other people have had similar problems, dont know much other than that. I will keep looking.

Brad

kid killah!

You guys have been great. I guess my last trouble shooting step is to try with my friends wii play disc...or to try cheating in other games...

I will let you know if I get it...but as of now thanks.

I made sure to hit thanks and applaud for everything. Feel free to ask me for anything.

Brad

No Problem! If I hear of anything I will post for you. For sure try a new game though and see if the cheats work on it, Also check the center of the game disk and see if the Game ID on it matches the Game ID you are using.

Good Luck!

Brad

I have come across this code for Tanks!, I do not know who created it but it does work. For some reason the nunchuck will not work with game loaded through Gecko Os, but if you load with Ocarina the nunchuck works. This is the only code I have been able to get to work with Tanks!
Hope it helps
