I have Gecko 1.9.3(which I downloaded via Homebrew Browser) but it doesn't have the "Launch Channels" option.  I tried 1.9.2b and that doesn't have it either.  I used "search" to look for topics that could help but I didn't find any.  What do I have to do to get "Launch Channels" to appear?

If it helps, I have 4.2 and I used bannerbomb to get the Homebrew Channel.

i believe the reason is because your IOS36 and 35 are too new and fixed by nintendo.  geckoOS needs to be able to DIverify() and Identify().  It tries these things at startup and if it doesnt succeed, it will not let you start channels.  I am not recommending that you go installing older IOS in your wii at all, unless you know what exactly you are doing and what DIverify() and Identify_SU() are.  Messing with this stuff without knowing what you are doing and why you are doing it has potential to kill the wii.  I'm just telling you why I think you dont see that option.

I don't.  I also don't know what an IOS is.

You need either a cIOS or a patched IOS36 for this. The relevant patch is the ES_Identify patch. Oh and the latest version does not use IOS249 anymore, so you more or less need a patched IOS36.

And before anybody gets here again with IOS36v1042, go away, that does not work on all new Wiis!

Sorry, but you don't seem to understand ES_Identify either. ES_Identify is the same as ES_DIVerify, both are just names for the same ioctl command.

What he says.. the thing with IOS249.. it is disabled on purpose (unfortunately).. we want to keep compatibility with virgin non-IOS modified Wiis and unfortunately IOS249 support breaks 4.2 support. Sorry, guys, but yes, IOS36 or 35 with broken ES_Identify - meaning: in case your Wii is old then IOS36 v1042 is the best choice but yes, it will not work on new Wiis.. for those, any ES_Identify patched IOS36 should do the trick!

Oh and it's still never using IOS35. Maybe on 3.1, but i'm not even sure about that. On 3.1 there wouldn't be issues, as the 3.1 IOS35 works as Gecko OS requires it to.

Ok, how do I get one and safely install it?  I'm so anxious to use cheats for Mega Man 9 and Contra Rebirth but obviously I don't want to damage or brick my Wii either.  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The easiest way on any system menu where the Launch channel option is disabled in Gecko OS is:
- Get Trucha Bug Restorer 1.1 or Trucha Bug Restorer mod(might be more stable than 1.1)
- Start it
- Downgrade IOS15 with it, using any IOS as firmware
- Install a fuly patched IOS36 to IOS36 using IOS15 as firmware
- Restore IOS15 using any IOS as firmware

If you don't have wifi, figure out what wads you need on sd card, and get them with NUS Downloader.

Well, well.  What I witnessed this morning just goes to show that sometimes, you've gotta take risks.  At first, I was afraid to install HBC because of "bricking" but when I found out there's no other way to use real cheats on the Wii, I took a chance and installed it anyway.  The same fear returned when I found out that I had to install TBR.  Not only was it quick and easy to install(for me at least) but my Wii did NOT get bricked!  I was able to get the "Launch Channels" option in Gecko and the cheats were successfully applied to the WiiWare games.  Many thanks to those replied to this thread to help and to those who created these cheat programs. :D

You don't install Trucha Bug Restorer, but i'm glad it helped you. I tried to write it as safe as possible, but a 100% brick free guarantee is not possible when writing to nand. At least it won't brick if the IOS it installs are not properly installed.

I also don't have the Channel and Rebooter options in Gecko 1.92b.  I am a little bit confused as to what programs/apps. I need to use to get this stuff.  I understand that I use Trucha Bug Restorer 1.1 first and use that app. to downgrade IOS15.  What about the IOS firmware in that step?  Is it included with TBR?  What program/app. do I need to do the install of IOS36 and to restore IOS15?  I am a total noob at this.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Also, is there any way to back-up the important stuff on my Wii if it gets bricked?  I downloaded the BootMii stuff to my SD memory card, but that's all I've done.

Thanks.

EDIT: BTW, I tried using cIOS Patchmii Installer, but it came up with an error message and froze the system.  I had to manually pull the plug.  Luckily, the system still works.

I too upgraded to 4.2U and I didn't have boot to channels either, but:

I don't endorse this personally, but I used this guide:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltrd3oq8hPc

and now I can boot channels!!  just download the second file in the message at the right (the one that says 4.2X).  Follow the video guide.  BTW, I have BootMii installed to boot2 and I backed up my nand first, but everything went okay without a hitch for me.
