I would like to use the USB Gecko to backup my Phantasy Star Online saves.

With an SD Gecko in slot A and Action Replay in slot B, I use the Action Replay disc to load SDLoad.  From SDLoad, I have tried running Gecko Loader and several versions of the USB Gecko firmware dols, which yield a “No USB Gecko Found” error in both cases.  I removed the SD Gecko from slot A and Action Replay from slot B, only placing the USB Gecko in slot B.  I still receive the same error.

Any potential solutions would be appreciated because the USB Gecko website is down and its content is scattered in the wind.

NOTE: The Gecko Tools can connect to the USB Gecko through the computer so I have no idea if the USB Gecko is defective or not.

While the USB Gecko is made for the gamecube it is admittedly mostly tested on Wiis. Still: the USB Gecko consists of two connectors.. one to the PC, one to the Gamecube/Wii - so the connection to the PC in your case is defenitely okay. What you should try:

-please try connecting the USB Gecko to a Wii - test its functionality there quickly
-in case even a Wii cannot get any connection to it.. then it sounds like the connectivity on external (Wii/Gamecube) side is broken (unfortunately)

From the sounds of your text, you did everything correct. GeckoOS 1.06b (latest for Gamecube) only accepts the USB Gecko in a Port B. In my case I was able to use Gecko OS using the SD Media Launcher and the Action Replay the same way you did:

-Action Replay in Slot B
-SD Gecko in Slot A
-Load Action Replay, launcher SDLoad
-remove Action Replay from Slot B, insert USB Gecko in Slot B
-from SDLoad menu, load Gecko OS 1.06b
-Gecko 1.06b should now detect the USB Gecko!

Well, I guess the USB Gecko is fine unless I had the bad luck of getting two defective ones (both give same error).

Looks like I should give that Gecko OS a try.  Does anyone have a good site (other than TehSkeen) that would have some of the older homebrew/gecko apps on it?

I tried running the GeckoOS a few times.  I get a blank screen with a little gecko in the lower left hand corner and the GeckoOS title above.  There is no response when any buttons are pressed on the controller.

edit: The other USB Gecko will boot into a menu, but there are no memory card options.  If I recall correctly, the only options that were not configuration type stuff were load game and load from SD.

I'm not sure what you mean.  The only thing I've had in slot B is an Action Replay card, which I replaced with the USB Gecko before loading any programs from SDLoad.

I thought that this was the same problem as in the earlier Wii version of GeckoOS, but I guess its something else.
I dont have a GC so I dont know the problem might be.

Thanks for the help everyone.  I finally got it working... just had to find the right utility to use with GeckoOS.
