IOS36 with trucha bug really required?

Does Gecko OS really need the trucha bug inside IOS36? If yes, why?

Also, if it's really required, could somebody please test this:

If it works the the safe alternative to an IOS36 downgrade, since downgrades are not possible on boot2v4 Wiis.

IOS36 is required for channel loading. Game loading does not require any trucha bug. For channel loading becoming root access is required and root access requires an old IOS36 (not really related to the trucha bug but all old IOS actually allow getting root access and the trucha bug - Nintendo fixed both at once!)

Ah i did not think it through. Of course you need more rights to access the data from the channels if you want to get their main.dol and not just start them.

Hmm, then you need the identify patch in my TBR, while the nand permissions would also help. But i guess it cancels the whole operation if the identify fails, even if it can access all files on nand due to the permissions patch.

I have no idea about channel hacking, could please somebody test it with the IOS you can install with the TBR? Just all options on, install as IOS36.
