Since we're now having more and more people who want to cheat in Virtual Console or WiiWare games I decided a downgrade guide would become necessary. For one thing: some rules remain active here and one of these rules is that no IOS files are to be published here. In this guide you will download an IOS file directly from the Nintendo Update Servers and I cannot imagine this would be illegal in any way.. who could forbid you downloading stuff from legitimate servers? Additionally.. yes it contains the master key.. however, after seeing it's floating around everywhere, bushing is posting it on his blog and on the 25c3 conference I also cannot imagine it to be majorly critical.

  1. First of all: the homebrew channel is required!
  2. Download and unpack http://l0nk.org/downgrade.zip
  3. Backup your SD card and format it - preferably with the SD Formatter
  4. Copy the apps (in the SD folder) folder on your SD card
  5. Launch the homebrew channel and select DVDX34
  6. Select "Downgrade IOS35"
  7. Wait until it's finished then reboot your Wii - if you get an error message like "You are a pirate" then DVDX34 detected pirated WAD files on your console.. see yourself what to do about them!
  8. In the PC folder execute downgradehelper.bat
  9. Press 1 and the NUS downloader will open
  10. Enter: 0000000100000024 in the first text field and 1042 in the second.. additionally check "Pack -> WAD" - then click "Start NUS download"
  11. This will download an original IOS36 WAD from the Nintendo servers! If everything went find, close the NUS downloader!
  12. You will now see some stuff happening on your console.. basically IOS36 will be now patched to cIOSv9!
  13. You will see a file called cIOSv9.wad in your PC folder!
  14. Clear the contents on the SD card.. create a folder called "Wad" and copy ciosv9.wad into it!
  15. Copy the apps2 folder onto the SD card and rename it to apps!
  16. Run your homebrew channel.. and select WMIOS35
  17. Select Front SD as source and try installing cIOSv9.wad by selecting it (D-Pad) and pressing + while having it selected - if everything went fine continue to point 20
  18. In case you get Error -1: Your SD card cannot be read.. please reformat using the SD Formatter and restart from point 14
  19. In case you get Error -1030: You already have a cIOS on slot 249 - please remove it using cIOS Uninstaller 1.0 and cIOS Uninstaller 1.1 (both in the apps folder). After doing so continue with point 16
  20. Run IOS Downgrader in your homebrew channel - this will downgrade all IOS up to IOS36
  21. Well done.. now Rebooter and VC/WiiWare hacking will work.. in case you want to downgrade to 3.2 (which is really not necessary) you can use cIOS Downgrade

This documentation comes with no warranty at all! It should not brick your Wii seeing IOSes above IOS36 are not touched (your 4.0 Wii uses IOS60 to boot) so in worst case your Wii should still be able to boot and simply doing a Nintendo update should fix it again. Therefore I do not recommend these instructions for 3.3v2 or 3.4 - if you have those systems: consider upgrading to 4.0!

Having said this: the instructions were tested on 3 Wiis.. they seem to work fine.

Finally a downgrading guide that I can recommend!  (first one I have seen that doesn't violate Nintendo's copyrights by including an IOS)

Thanks a lot for putting this guide together Link! :)
