Getting Gecko to Work with WiiWare/Virtual Console

I hope this belongs in this section. In any case, I don't fully understand how to get Gecko to work with channels. When I select Launch Channel, I get "Error Getting Channel List". Now, I heard that this can be solved by downgrading IOS36. I have a few questions about this.

Will downgrading IOS36 cause any problems at all with my Wii or my Wii or Gamecube games?

Which version of IOS36 should I downgrade to?

How do I downgrade IOS36?

Anything else in particular that I should know about?

I use the latest official North American firmware (v4.0U) and the latest version of the Homebrew Channel and Gecko (obviously). Other than using the Twilight Hack, I have not modded my Wii in any way. Any assistance at all would be greatly appreciated.

No official System Menu uses IOS36, so there shouldn't be any major concern with downgrading it.

It really shouldn't cause any problems with any of your Wii games.  In order to keep compatibility with older games that use this IOS, it is unlikely that any major changes would be made, other than fixing things like the signing bug.

GameCube games use MIOS, and not IOS.  Therefore, those games will be fine.

I would recommend v1042 of IOS36.  This can be found on games such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Kart Wii.  Use the Wii Update File Extractor (WUFE) to extract that file from the disc.

Did you update to 4.0 through Nintendo?  If so, then you will probably need to do some additional things in order to successfully downgrade IOS36.  I'm not real familiar with downgrading, so hopefully someone can provide more information on this.

Yes, I updated through Nintendo. Would this mean that I'd have to downgrade the firmware, even with the Homebrew Channel?

I'm not really sure.  Since you would be trying to install an older version of IOS36, I don't think that it would allow you to install it over the newer version.  Again, I'm not too familiar with any downgrading procedures.

Just curious, but do you have either Super Smash Brothers Brawl or Mario Kart Wii?

Does it require a USB Gecko? Because I don't have one.

No USB Gecko is required, just follow the guide Link made and channel loading should work for you! :)
