I put this here because it is semi hacking related.

I have two sd cards: one is a datel max transfer 1 gb sd card( the other end can hook up to a usb port) the second one is a cube memory micro sd to sd adaptor.

Now, my datel one works in all of my wii games, works in my computer, and in the hombrew channel on the wii. it does not, however, work with the wii menu [like, for example, transfering save data(it just says this devise can't be used)] nor does it work with gecko os ( it just says SD error).

My adaptor works in my computer and the homebrew channel but not any videogames, the wii menu, or gecko os

any ideas as to why they don't work?

Even though they ultimately fit in the same slots, not all SD cards are perfectly identical formats.  There are different updates for the format over the years, and not everything is fully compatible.  I think that there is a post specifically pertaining to SD cards and the GeckoOS on this site, but can't easily search for that or any details on your listed cards since I'm posting from my phone right now.

So further details...  I don't think you mentioned what size MicroSD card you're using in the adapter?  That could make a difference as far as that goes; both the size and specific SD format (SD vs. SDHC.)   Adapters also don't provide for the full blown real experience that using the micro card in its native sort of port provides.  And if it's a SDHC card that you're using in the adapter, I don't think that the Wii in general supports SDHC and there is a post about GeckoOS not supporting it at the moment.

From a general standpoint, I can't say for sure why the Datel card would work in everything but the system menu or GeckoOS.  I would claim it probably has something to do with what the card is detected as and the drivers used for it, but I would expect that the games would access the memory card through the Wii utilities - however, there really are too many possibly questions and I would expect that a card that is supposed to work with the Wii to ... I dunno, actually work with the Wii.  The only thing I can say as far as SD cards go is that I would never buy a Wii "branded" one since the SD card support is in the Wii is open to generics of all sorts with many cheaper and more robust options available.   It's also possible that maybe Nintendo didn't like the fact that there is a USB port on the memory card and decided to block it (personally, this makes no sense to me since a USB port doesn't actually make a SD card out to be any more accessible on a  PC than a regular SD card.)  There's also the possibility that there could be something wrong with the card that the system menu and GeckoOS don't like (corrupt or incorrectly placed data, card going bad, etc. ... basically limitless possibilities of what 'could go wrong'.)
