Hello...this is my first post and maybe the more noob post. I'm from spain, sorry for my english. I tried to read some posts about this problem but i can't win in this battle. I recently bought a usbgecko..but... I have a little problem. I installed the last drivers for the gecko in two machines, in Windows XP and Windows Vista. In Xp and Vista, the usbgecko not working. I want to use the wiird program but when I start the wiird, give me this message:
Attempting connection with USBGecko
Connection failed! Type in reconnect to retry!
Couldn't establish connection

And yes.. the usbgecko has plugged in slot B. It's curious when I load the Gecko Os, the bottom picture is green. Then, the geckoos and homebrew channel and more detects the usbgecko. The drivers are installed but no... Don't work... I tried to use another program... for example the Gecko loader for load some elfs in wii... In all cases the usbgecko not connect with pc-wii. I also tried to use wine in linux to load wiird but no...
What is the problem? it's broken? I used the drivers from cd, the last official drivers... the last beta drivers...  Changed the config "Load VCP" in two possible values... Anyone help?
Sorry for my.. kid? english.

Thank you for your time

try reinstalling the drivers.

also i had some issues running through windows 7 and had to install 6-9 times before getting it to work

I tried to reinstall drivers more than 10 times and not result. Anyone know if I only connect the USB Gecko to my PC (and not wii, only PC), I will be able to get success connect? argh.. I want to take the usb gecko and go to work to reinstall some more times the drivers but I don't know if I can connect the usbgecko-pc (in wiird for example) and establish connection.

Thank you

Please try an application on http://www.usbgecko.com/manual.htm - Load VCP is not required for WiiRd and related applications. Try Gecko Load for example and just connect to the USB Gecko. If it works there try using the newest drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm . If it then works with the USB Gecko tools but not WiiRd I'll send you a WiiRd version with some debug output and why it cannot connect using your drivers!

Hi,

the WiiRd is only able to connect to the USBGecko when your game is started.
You have to start it with the Gecko OS. Did you do it this way ?

I did this mistake after i got my USBGecko.

I tried with gecko loader, gecko dvd and more but don't work. Link, if you could send me a wiird with debug output I will thank you. I need to know why doesn't work. And yes, I tried to use wiird with geckoOs...with reboot hooks in wii menu, with game.... Don't work anyone program.
I don't have the little battery in wii and the wii frontal (power on, reset... buttons) but I think it's irrelevant.
Thank you

If even Gecko Load and related can't connect then your USB Gecko might be broken.. I only have debugging versions in the case the communication of WiiRd and the USB Gecko fails.. if even Gecko Load and such cannot connect.. then it seems your USB Gecko is broken.. you will have to contact [email protected] then

I came back from Christmas Vacation to find out santa messed up my Gecko. Turns out the FTDI Chip inside the bugger that does the serial to USB conversion decided to die. (Im an electronics guy, I know how to test these things) Im hoping to bypass it and come up with a fix, but with my work table filling up with orders to repair other peoples broken shit, I dont see me being able to get to it anytime soon. Word of advice... never buy a PS2 or DVD player made by Apex. So far those are the two most requested for repair that break from dumbass engineer mistakes...

I have contacted with [email protected] but I don't have response yet. I don't know one thing....Why the geckoOs detects the usbgecko, and when I plugged the usbgecko to PC also PC detects the connection (Installing new hardware) but don't work... broken or not broken...

I have read everything and tried all possible fails but..
Well, thank you all but just think is broken :(
Everything I buy on Internet is broken. Bad luck for me

Gecko OS I just checked - if the green Gecko appears it doesn't necessarily mean it detected a USB Gecko.. it more or less means it detected something to communicate with.. I put in my SD Gecko and the Gecko was green just Gecko OS menu took some time to appear (even the Homebrew CHannel showed a USB Gecko was connected). So it's hard to say which side is defective, the USB side on your PC or the serial side on Wii. I'd personally guess the serial side is kinda broken as Gecko OS pretty quickly reports a USB Gecko would be plugged in!

I have already done all the tests possible. I tried with 2 wiis, with 3 laptops ... When I connect my usbgecko to laptop, the computer detects and install drivers etc .... When I connect my usbgecko to wii, the geckoOs detects (green picture) and, if I try to put in the slot A, obviously does not detect it. It is curious the first time I launched the wiirdgui, it's remained frozen. Could only click on "show wiird" I closed it and opened it again and then wiirdgui said not detect the usbgecko. The first time seems that it detects.
The usbgecko has a firmware? Is possible flash? and you can leave it unusable or something?
Now, among which sends them to the store and get it, will more than 1 month and was to make a gift.

I used a little a translator to go faster, sorry

Foxx, I am not an electronics guy, but I am a programmer guy. I have enough knowledge I think. Can you tell me how to check if it is damaged or how I can repair it?

If I connect with (putty for example) to the COM usbgecko, I have to give some information?

Thank you for your time
