Hi. I was told there were some threads on this forum concerning probs backing up an orig SSBB multi layer game. Have wii key with latest firmware together with a gecko USB. I tried using a Verbatum DVD- multi layer disc, game is recognised and loads up but then get a black screen with "Error 101 unorthorised device detected." Have no probs playing my orig games incl SSBB or the single layer backups of my other games. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Smash Bros Brawl - Extraction & Burning Guide
I thought id do a small guide to show people how to extract and burn Smash Bros Brawl, as it is known for the original Import game to have problems playing on certain Wii consoles. This was tested with an JAP original copy of SSBB using a Pioneer DVD-111D DVD burner and a Wiinja Deluxe chip. Please no mention of downloaded ISO's, trucha signer, cutting to D5 that type thing in this thread.

1. Ripping:

Load The USB Gecko and Open USB Gecko Tool, then insert your Smash Bros Brawl original Dual Layer DVD.

Click extract and the screen and tool will stated Wii Dual Layer DVD detected and start ripping.

Extraction will take 4-5 hours depending on the mode, the progress bar will indicate the progress.

Once extracted, you will have a file with the filesize 8511,160,320 bytes.

2. Burning:

You will need ImgBurn to burn the extracted ISO, you can download it at //www.imgburn.com. The version i used to do this guide was 2.4.0.0.

Before burning the ISO Go to TOOLS - Settings. Then select the 'Write TAB'. At the right hand side you will see options for Layer Break. Click 'User Specified' and as the layer break (Sectors in L0) enter 2084960

This layer break is very important. Leave all the other settings as default, open extracted ISO and burn.

Tested Media:

Verbatim DVD+R 8.5GB (Made in Singapore). Set to DVD-ROM booktype with Pioneer drive.

Note: You will need an NTFS formatted drive if dealing with files larger than 4GB, this is a FAT limitation and not a problem of the USB Gecko extraction. In windows explorer you can check this by clicking on the destination drive letter and it will display the format.

I used V1.0 beta ripper of Gecko and Tool for this guide.

Forgot to mention, my ISO file was 8,311,180 and not 8511,160,320 bytes as quoted within the instructions, thought I had missed something in my extraction but all was good. Thanks also to Nuke for the original.

Opps, stand corrected it was actually 7.92 GB (8,511,160,320 bytes)
