I tried backing up my copies of these games, with varied success.
Mario Galaxy seems to be working OK, but everytime I play after a save, my # of lives seems to reset/shrink.

SSB Brawl seems OK, except in the campaign mode. Every time a level ends and a cutscene/movie is to start playing, the screen goes white, and a message displays saying to take the disc out, turn it off, and start over. What's the deal with that? Gameplay seems fine... it's just the movies that are problematic.

Nuke

are you booting games from Gecko OS or from the Disc channel?
Did you install the updates off Smash Bros Brawl?
Did you burn the Game at low speed, using known working Media?

I'm playing/booting like a regular game. How do I play a game from the Gecko OS?

Yeah, the updates from the original disc were put on the Wii when I first popped it in.

Yep, I burned it at 4x using ImgBurn.

Nuke

Did you set a custom layer break in Imgburn for brawl? I think it is 2084960 i.e  TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960

i had a tutorial on ripping and burning brawl on the old forum, i wish i had saved it now

Thanks for the tip. I set it up like you said, and burned the image that I had on my pc, but I'm still getting the same error. :(

Nuke

Its sounds more like a Media problem than anything from your description, as there is heavy laser activity when playing movies.

Try 2x speed burn, or switch to a known media like Verbatim DVD+R DL (singapore die) if using a different brand.

Also make sure your modchip firmware is updated as all 'if not most' modchips had brawl issues in older firmwares.

i'm pretty sure it's supposed to set back to 5 lives every time you boot up your save it does for mine and i have a legit version of SMG so i dont think anything's wrong

These are Nuke's instructions for burning SSBB:

2. Burning:

You will need ImgBurn to burn the extracted ISO, you can download it at //www.imgburn.com. The version i used to do this guide was 2.4.0.0.

Before burning the ISO Go to TOOLS - Settings. Then select the 'Write TAB'. At the right hand side you will see options for Layer Break. Click 'User Specified' and as the layer break (Sectors in L0) enter 2084960

This layer break is very important. Leave all the other settings as default, open extracted ISO and burn.

Tested Media:

Verbatim DVD+R 8.5GB (Made in Singapore). Set to DVD-ROM booktype with Pioneer drive.

I followed the instructions above but my Wii would not recognize the disk.  I used Verbatim DVD+R DL burning at 4x, then tried at 2.4x - no success.  I used imageburn and specified the layerbreak.  I made 3 coasters.

I have an Argon 13 wire modchip install with the latest 1.8 firmware (for the 13 wire install).

The only thing I dont understand is what is meant by setting the DVD-ROM booktype......

Anyone have a suggestion?

I burned SSBB without the layer break and it worked ok, however I havent played it properly yet. What happens with/without the layer break?

Also I didnt know it was DL and have only burned it as a SL.
How do you know if games are SL or DL?

I guess the game isnt going to work too well when i start to play it???

Nuke

SSBB is the only Dual Layer game for Wii currently, you can see just by looking at the DVD its dual layer.

The data wouldn't fit on a single layer DVD, unless was some dodgy hacked ISO with stuff removed.

It may work without the Layerbreak setting on some modchips.

I believe Brawl will work up to a point if you use single-layer discs and tell IMGBurn to burn even if data will be missing. I believe it will crash somewhere around single player mode, like in the SSE. I can't remember, I read this in a character texture-swapping tutorial I found somewhere.
