Animal Crossing code problem

I apologize if this is the incorrect board to ask this but I am in need of some assistance.
I followed all the steps to apply a code to a game:
-Have Gecko OS 1.07 for HBC9
-Have updated Code Manager
-Converted 0.txt to .gct in HBC
-Loaded game from Gecko OS; OS said codes applied
-Didn't use USB Gecko since I don't have it

Now when I enter the game as my 1st character neither of the two codes I entered work, could someone tell me what I am doing wrong.
