Need Help With Hacking...obviously

So i jsut got HBC and Ocarina. I've gotten some smash codes just to try it put it on word pad got txt did the code manager it saves it into a file on my SD Card called Codes and i don't beleive i've done anything wrong and yet when i start up the game it says no codes found. Do i have to take them out of codes or well i was suppose to move ocarina from HBC to apps but i still have HBC folder which is empty now. I ask because this is probably a common problem, hopefully it is, and i've check i have US version and my codes are US. or they should be i got them off of this site under US. Any ideas on how to fix this?

did you put the cheat file in the root of your SD card or in root/codes?

Make sure that you're using the correct version of the codes (U), (E), (J) etc...and the GameID is correct (GameID is the key for codes to be detected).

One way to narrow down your problems is instead of using Ocarina, which to the best of my understanding is no longer the preferred way run cheats, launch up Gecko and load the game.  This will tell you what your game ID is and also tell you if it found cheats on your SD card or not.  After doing this, you can see if the game is from a different region or if the cheats are not getting loaded properly.
