Sorry if it has been asked already, but with the forums being reset there is no history for me to search!

As I'm sure you are aware, when using Gecko OS the Wii's date is reset to 1/1/2000. Is this likely to be permanent, or is there a fix in the works?

Thanks very much for your excellent program, admittedly I only use it for region free gaming but it is a great resource, I appreciate the time you've put into it.

p.s. Is there any way to install Gecko OS as a channel in the system menu, or is the Homebrew Channel the only advised method of loading it?

Have a look at this http://www.usbgecko.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7
you can make your own channel with the dol file that comes with geckoOS

The problem I think is its being launched from a channel. Maybe the time / date is set in the system menu when a game is booted.

I have a feeling even a Gecko OS channel it would still happen.

The only solution for now is boot using Zelda and booting the GeckoOS 1.6d boot.elf from that. This way works.

Thanks memorris, I'll have a look at that. I've heard horror tales about people bricking their wiis with slightly incorrect custom channels though so I may avoid it!

Nuke: Thanks for the reply. Yes I suspect you are right, I was asking about the channel more for convenience than as a fix. Fewer clicks to get into my American version of Smash Bros :)

This raises the question of what happens when a channel is booted. I wonder why it fiddles with the time settings. Ah Nintendo, you are nothing if not unconventional.

I'd give this a try as a channel, but I'm not sure how to create one and couldn't find any straight forward answer in any of the Wii forums I follow.  It's no big deal, as I'm just happy it tracks the date now.  I should drop the question on the HBC forum to see if they know anything about the date reset.  Obviously it's bypassing the date-check, maybe even making the Wii think it's fresh out of the box with nothing set yet.

Nuke

Not really sure where the code is and when its activated, for channels it maybe in the Nand loader itself, for games I can't find it in the apploader or in the main.dol, so maybe its set when booting from the system menu.

I don't think I get this problem. Do you mean that a game's date changes to 1/1/2000, or that the Wii itself changes to 1/1/2000?

I use GeckoOS via the Homebrew Channel for region free gaming and my Wii's internal clock never changes to an incorrect date.

Nuke

The game itself, I think its just Wiifit and Brawl

I added the problem to http://wiibrew.org/w/index.php?title=Homebrew_Channel/Bugs - maybe it's a HBC problem so now the devs know about it.

it's definately not just those two games, i think it's all game.

for example, in no more heroes, the date is 1/1/2000
...not that it really matters for this game

you can see the date if you pause the game and look at the very top corner of the screen. the time and date are displayed there, for some reason

memorris

All the games i try with the GeckoOS via the Homebrew Channel this happens two.
With the tp hack everything is ok tho...But i do not mind the Homebrew Channel it is easier.:)

Mr Esteves

I think i don't have the date problem in brawl, the only problem i have with GeckoOS is when forcing PAL 60 mode with the version 1.6 colour fix (by the Homebrew Channel, i didn't try using TP hack (Brawl NTSC, and No More Heroes NTSC on a PAL wii fw 3.2) if i force 50hz (PAL 50) the game runs with colours (instead of the black and white) but it runs slower than it should (because of the 50 hz instead of 60hz) if i force pal 60 the screen simple goes black and stands there for eternity,

p.s sorry for my English

technically all games have it.. just most games ignore the system time so the problem doesn't come to sight!
