General help please!

Right, first off I'm new to this homebrew thing but I'm technologically 'able' so I'll be able to understand you guys :P
My question is.. straight up, what will i need to use the codes from the codes database on my games? atm i think my wii is on 4.0u but not sure. Also, IF its on 4.2 will a factory settings restore allow me to install homebrew? i know ill lose my saves but i recently restored it anyway because my saves were corrupt for some reason after pulling it out the closet. cheers, Infamous

install the homebrew channel and then you just need gecko os to launch games and hook into them, any codes you have enabled it will apply

ahh nice, and i dont need a usb gecko?

the usb gecko is only needed if you want to try and make your own codes

to use other peoples from this forum you just need to run gecko os

there probably is somewhere that states that in a sticky? but i couldn't find it but i only looked for five mins cos i was really tired.
People here seem to be really involved in helping everyone get the most out of there wii's.
its nice to see a working community for once ha.
