Hi all, been wanting to update my gecko os, put in some home brew and use some cheats on my wii, but my wii keep giving me an sd card error.

It keeps telling me i can't use the sd card in my sd card slot! i gone through 3 sd cards( which works perfectly fine btw )

I read somewhere on the forum that maybe using a usb flash drive might work but it doesn't even detect it.

So is there some sort of workaround to this? or does the problem lie in the wii it self?

If it helps, my wii is version 3.2 and my gecko os is 1.0 something with 002 fix

did you format your sd card to fat? What version of Gecko Os are you using? What version of WiiRd are you using?

ok well my wii is version 3.2u, gecko os is 1.07b mod.05 , IOS249. And about my sd card being FAT, did you mean FAT32? if so yeah it is FAT32, and its freshly formatted before i put it into my wii

Romaap

You should try the newest Gecko, 1.07 is VERY outdated.

onepacks

I know i should, but i cant exactly do that if my wii can't read sd cards. So can some one tell me what i can do about my problem?

Romaap

What exactly is giving you the error?
The Wii's menu itself?
or something else?

onepacks

ok, in the main wii menu, where i go to see my saved games, i click on my sd card and it says "sd card cannot be used", when launching a game with gecko os, it says "sd error".

Romaap

Are the SD cards you use the same as the one you used before? (I assume you had to use one before since you have Gecko OS)
Make sure the SD card is not locked (the switch on the side of the SD card)

onepacks

The sd cards i have now were not the ones used to install my existing gecko, my current gecko was installed by the store that sold me my wii. I made sure the locking mechanism was'nt an issue and i made certain the cards are not faulty either, as they work perfectly fine everywhere else except on my wii.

I apologize for my slow replies as it's 6 in the morning here in singapore.

It sounds like your sd card slot reader has gone bad (clean and/or replace it) or you have an issue with one of your IOSes being corrupt. I would reccommend that for technical issues you go to wiibrews forums for support but since you have IOS249 installed you won't be able to get support there unless you do not mention it and you would have to mention it in order to get support that would accurately solve your issue. The best I can reccomend is that you either replace the SD card slot and see if that helps or just use the WiFi to update to 4.2 which has a update for the sd card slot firmware and see if that fixes the issue. If it does you can always use bannerbomb to reinstall hbc and use it to get your Wii back to the way it is now. There are apps out that will enable you to make it do everything it can do right now, and I know what you are thinking but it can be done. Personally given the risk. I would try to replace the SD card reader first and then try the update, reinstall hbc, restore to current settings option. Just out of curiosity did you have bootmii set to boot2 and have a NAND dump backup made on this Wii back when it was virgin? Also do you have Pre or Prii loader installed and if so what are they set to boot to? Do you have a drive chip in there if so what is it and if not do you know what chip set is in your wii? While not critical these are just tid bits of info that could help me come up with a work around for your issue or if you have to go with the update and restore option then it can help make it easier and safer. Hope this helps. Sorry I could not fix the problem. Let me know if you need more help.

Sincerely,

Thank you for the very very helpful info there. Will try to do as you suggested.

But i got a few questions, if you don't mind answering.

" for technical issues you go to wiibrews forums for support but since you have IOS249 installed you won't be able to get support there unless you do not mention it " <- why is that?

" Just out of curiosity did you have bootmii set to boot2 and have a NAND dump backup made on this Wii back when it was virgin? Also do you have Pre or Prii loader installed and if so what are they set to boot to? " <- I have no idea what you just said, but i'm curious to see if what you mentioned is in my wii, how do i look for these things in my wii?

" Do you have a drive chip in there if so what is it and if not do you know what chip set is in your wii? " <- i have no idea about this too, but again, i would like to see what drive chip i have, how do i check this out?

Again thank you very much my friend, you have been most kind

IOS294 is mostly used for piracy software (software that lets you play downloaded games), but the people at WiiBrew don't like piracy.

I can't really think of a way to check if it is installed without an SD card, except if you have The Homebrew Channel installed

If you are able to play downloaded games on your wii then it probably has a drive chip.

onepacks

Ah i see i didn't know all that, so the only way to find out what was mentioned above, is to play a downloaded game?

Seeing as i got my local game shop to install gecko for me, it's probably safe to assume that he assumed, that since i wanted gecko, i also wanted to play pirated games,

And me being the unassuming, oblivious idiot probably got my wii modded more than expected unknowingly.

I think its just safer to just bring my wii back to the store and try to resolve things.

Thank you very much guys, wouldn't have figured that all out without all of your help.
