How far should I update my Wii and how to do so? (Not 4.2)

Hello. I currently have my Wii at 3.2U with the Homebrew channel and GeckoOS 1.9.3 installed. I noticed that some games out there demand I update before I can play them (curse you, Nintendo). So, I thought I needed to update my Wii, but not to the most current one Nintendo has (4.2?). How do I go about that and which version do I update to?

Just so you all know, I'd liked to be able to use GeckoOS to make my own codes if need be and to load GCT files on both Wii game discs and channels alike. At 4.0 (or 4.1, I can't remember which), I couldn't get GeckoOS to load channels with the GCT files anymore, which pissed me off. I already know that I can use WiiSCU to update the shopping channel so I can buy games if I wanted to and a few others features in the Wii (forgot which things, though). I think I remember hearing that 3.6 was the best, but I don't want to try until I hear more opinions about how close to 4.2 I can update to without losing features out the wazoo.

Under no circumstance should you update a 3.2!!! A 3.2 is still a fully functional Wii. If you update even to 3.3 you will start to lose control over your Wii, by the time you get to 4.2 you will have turned over nearly all control of your Wii to Nintendo. There are huge lettered signs at the top of this forum saying DO NOT UPDATE! Seriously do not update. You can get around needing the updates for the games. Go to http://forum.wiibrew.org/ and ask you question in the getting started section and I and others like me will walk you through step by step installing the correct hbc app that will allow you to update your system's IOS 36 (game channel) without updating your system menu and losing functionality. I cannot tell you how lucky you are to still have a 3.2 system, please do not make me cry and ruin it by updating it. BTW if you use the update function even once it will go straight to 4.2 and you will lose HBC and have to reinstall it and you will lose all kinds of things that make HBC so great. I have always wanted a working good condition 3.2 system. If you want an updated system I will swap you consoles. I have a mega tricked out HBC Wii on 4.2 that I will trade you. If you are interested in trading me PM me and let me know. BTW when I say tricked out I mean it is really got a lot done to it and all was done in a professional console shop. It has a ton of DLC too.

Anyways back to my point as I am sure you are aware of the treasure you posses and won't trade it, DO NOT RUIN IT BY UPDATING, there are ways around it that are very safe and simple that will allow you to do every thing 4.2 can do without losing control over your Wii. Just go to to http://forum.wiibrew.org/ and explain your situation and we will help you. I hope this help. Later.

Thank you for the info. I will not update my Wii at all. If a game comes up demanding the update, I will just ask the forum how to get around it.
