Wiifrii + Gecko OS = Problem?

When launching a game that has been patched with wiifrii (or any other patching software) in the "launch game" option, Gecko OS says "starting up drive" then "reading DVD stats...", then freezes/stops (loading). However games that are not patched works fine. Any suggestions where the problem might lie. I´m on system 4.0e (with wiikey2).

How about just skip patching altogether?

WiiFrii is for region free games right? If so, why not simply use the GeckoOS built-in region free system?
