Have a question regarding "Wii System Updates" when some of the NEWER games I purchased are inserted into the Wii.

It first started with the game "Animal Crossing" at which time I did not update, have never played the game.

Now I starting to get more of the "Wii System Update" when inserting some other NEW games we recently purchased. Such as "UP!" and "Boom Blox - Bash Party".

My pre-modded Wii was purchased from ModChipCentral with a D2Pro9 v2 ModChip. Console was purchased on 10-7-2008, not sure but according to chipset DB look-up there is a 100% chance the chipset is GC2-D2C2 (v2) and the drive has the new metal clip

Here is how my Wii is currently configured from what I see in the menus:

    * Wii OS ver 3.3U (think it originally came with 3.2 but my son inadvertently did a "Wii System Update" from a game, not sure whice one)
    * HBC Beta 9 IOS36 (I added, think I started with v8)
    * Gecko OS 1.07b (I added, it was working till my son did the update, now I get a not valid Wii app msg)
    * Also own a Gecko USB

If I accept the "Wii System Updates" will my console continue to keep working ? ? ? Really worried about bricking the console !!!!

I don't really use the HBC or Gecko OS that much, but I would like to get it working again.

EDITS:

  • So I guess what I'm asking is can I do a HBC Update directly from the Wii via wireless connection to web ?  From the Wii it is stating that I can upgrade to HBC 1.0.3, do you want to Update "Yes" or "Cancel" ?
  • Then can I install the "Wii System Update" from the game disks mentioned above ? ? ?
  • Then my my next question is what Gecko OS should I install, was able to DL ver. 1.8.0.2 from USB Gecko site ? I saw a 1.9 version but the link did not work. After I unzipped 1.8.0.2 I see how I can just overwrite the three fles boot.elf, icon.png and meta.xml.
  • What about the boot.dol that sits at the root of the SD card, does ti need a later version and where do I acquire it ?

Thanks in advance for any Help or Advice you can offer, it will be GREATLY appreciated  !!!!

Regards,
AX

Well I did some experimenting and have accomplished the following:

Updated HBC to 1.0.3
Updated Gecko OS to 1.8.0.2 (Was able to launch "UP!" from this app after installing IOS 53 as requested)

Now do I still do the "Wii System Update"  ? ? ?

So worried about bricking my console from doing system updates ... ;-)

It is usually better to not update, also, you can work around games auto-updating by just loading it through Gecko OS
(don't know if you already know that)
