Want to buy a USB Gecko But I got some questions

I'm really interested in buying a USB Gecko now that it also has support for GC games and Wiiware and VC games. It's too bad that there really isn't a place here for requesting codes and there are a few Wiiware games that I would like cheats for but they are not available yet. I do have some questions though before buying it. Do I need my Wii to be at specific firmware to use USB Gecko to search for codes?

I have a modhip and I also have the latest GeckoOS as a channel installed, this should be all I need installed on the Wii right?

My PC is about 12-13 feet away from my Wii. I heard the max an USB cable can go before needing a repeater is 15 feet. Will I need a USB extension cable and if so how long? Is the cable that comes with the USB Gecko just 6 feet?

First, if you'd like to make code suggestions now, you can do that in a game's support thread. :)
Second, your Wii doesn't need to be at any specific firmware, although it is highly suggested to stay below firmware 4.0 for now
(And many people prefer version 3.2, I myself have my Wii on this version)
Third, you have everything you need installed.

For the cable, mine is only about 2 and a half feet :p You'll probably need an extension cable, probably 15 feet, unless you can find one about 13 feet long. The added length can also help if the cable goes across a place people walk- a tight cable could mean people would trip over it.
