What is the simplest way to run import software via Gecko OS? (for my wife)

I have a US Wii (3.4U, no modchip, HBC installed), but I'm living in Japan.

My wife and I want to get Wii Fit, but I know that if launching the "import" Japanese version is one step harder than loading a regular US game, she's not going to do it. Not that she can't, but she doesn't like games much to begin with, so I need to keep the barrier to entry low.

I don't actually have the game yet. I thought I should see how feasible it is to run it before I drop the cash on it.

It seems that right now she'd have to launch the HBC, then load Gecko OS, then start the game. That seems like way too much work for her (almost for me too! :P ).

How can I simplify things without going too overboard and installing crazy irreversible stuff like Starfall? I want my Wii to remain as normal as possible.

starfall
search it on wiibrew.org. install the "region free wii games" patch along with any other patches that take your interest

do NOT pm me to request a code or if you have any problems with my code.

lol you can uninstall starfall at any time. also theres a warning sign in wiibrew saying that it can brick your wii but this has been proven wrong since it only patches the system menu. ive installed and uninstalled starfal about 10 times for the sake of it and have never bricked my wii, why? because the chance of bricking your wii with starfall is 0.0001%.

and remember you can uninstall starfall whenever you want

Hi Jassim
when you uninstall stuff from you're wii you leave stuff on your Nane still.
At the moment you can not uninstall every trace of stuff you install on your wii.
Jassim uninstall it again then do a nane dump look in the nane dump you will see
what i mean.
;)

Romaap

he has system menu 3.4 so he cant install starfall unless he downgrades.
tottoritoro, you can try to find an GeckoOS.wad and install it with wadmanager, but wadfiles use a loader copyrighted by nintendo so its a bit illegal.
but you still have to downgrade for that because the system menu 3.4 prevents installing wadfiles.

starfall is a patch, even if you forgot to uninstall it nintendo would have to open up and inspect the file -.-

if you uninstall it wont leave ANY traces do a nand dump before installing and uninstall and compare the files with cmd prompt and you'll see no difference.

I suggest downgrading anyways because 3.2 is the best firmware and supposedly 3.4 can force updates.

then you can use starfall which is fine for what you want. you could also use preloader, but it does the same thing just leaves traces (2 system menus)

and @ root maniac, A while ago you called me a crazy conspiracy theorist, but to me it sounds the other way around. you just want to be a homebrew virgin if you ask me. nothing permanent and you can always get back what you nearly lost...

and i hate to break it to you but HBC has more traces (tickets) than installing Starfall via twilight hack :| (no traces)

Jassim

even if it did leave traces it doesnt matter cos its legal

word of advice: downgrade to 3.2 and never update again. just search on google : "how to downgrade from 3.4 to 3.2" and youll get a whole list of links.

if you downgrade to 3.2 you can always use additional wads to get the features that really matter in future updates.

Like IOS 38, 55, and 53 which are needed for some games but the rest of their update will sacrifice some homebrew.

Root Maniac

Ok then was wrong then.
@heatoan2 no need to flam me you are a mod read the rules .

Thanks for all your quick and helpful replies!

Couple more questions for you:

- how do you uninstall Starfall if you need to? would I need the USB Gecko to do that?

- if I'm at 3.2U w/ Starfall, will I still be able to access the Wii Shop Channel as usual? I occasionally like to buy VC games.

Thanks!

Jassim

yep youd be able to access the shop channel as usual. To uninstall starfall, you load starfall and uninstal any patches youve installed (its really obvious when you see it)

Put the cursor on what you want to uninstall, and press "-" I think.

Also, does format system memory erase tickets on the NAND? I seem to remember no, but just making sure...and you would still lose saves etc

When downgrading from whatever firmware you are on it will not delete any extra files.

So by downgrading from 3.4 you will keep any files that are unknown to 3.2 which include the IOS51 which is used for the new shop channel.

^^ thats my experience with Waninkoko's cIOS downgrader which allows you to downgrade your system.
