i dont know if this post is in the right section so feal free to move it if necesary. ok so im new to consol hacking and programing and i was wandering if it was posible to mod games with USB gecko or some other similar software. and im not talking cheats and sutch like they have on this site i mean like adding weapons or costumes or new levels, stuf like that. i think in order to do that thogh you would need to actualy change the data on the game disk itself but im hoping im wrong.

You would have to edit the ISO of the game in order to do that, and probably only the simpliest things could be possible after a lot of effort, eg: weapons and stuff, but you can only use what's on the ISO, and any extra levels, they would HAVE to be in the game's ISO or it wouldn't be possible. If I put the Demo Level from Super Mario Galaxy as an example, it would be amazing if we could have it but its not on the game's ISO at all, so it's virtually impossible. That's probably what's gonna be your same answer here, not possible.

Romaap

it is possible to upload a texture with the USBGecko

thanks dalek thats what i wanted to know. but about the textures.. i know its basicaly just changing the color but could u change the model too? or would the game not recognise it if it isnt the same model. like your post about the lucario texture, could u use a 3d program to change lucario into something els like.. oh idk a tank? well now that i think about it even if you could do that the tank would be warped every time you move or use an atack becaus the game would try to move the the tank as if it was still lucario and in order to fix that you would have to rewrite the ISO like dalek said.. idk correct me if im wrong.

Bioshadow, Romaap is correct in being able to upload a texture as the texture does exist on the ISO, thats if the texture you want is on it. You can edit the model of the character as I have seen in a previous post but you have to be very careful with what you do, or the game will just freeze. I don't think changing Lucario into a tank would work though, as it would freeze after trying one of Lucario's moves. It would involve rewriting the ISO.

bioshadow

yea i figured.. i just used the lucario/tank idea as an example becaus its a pretty extreme change and if something like that was posible then almost anything would be af far as textures and models lol but thanks for your help guys, i apreciate it.

It is entirely possible to add weapons/costumes/whatever to a game without modifying the disc data, but you do need enough space in RAM available to load it.  Also it will usually require a lot of work, since these games don't usually have modding tools available for them.

That isn't entirely correct.  Texture uploading is not done from the disc, it is done from a computer through a USB Gecko (or using a snapshot) with data that may or may not exist on the disc.

Lol, I knew you had to upload the textures through good old USBGecko, was just a stupid little typo :P, thanks for correcting me there brkirch!
