Hi..all

Im new here and just got the USB gecko...but for the life of Me I cant get it to back up My games

I have the solderless D2Sun v2.02 modchip installed...seems to be working a treat.

I downloaded the gcosP16df image and burnt to disc....this is where My problems start.

I cant select anything in the menu....are you meant to be able to...if so...how ?

I dont have a SD card for the wii .... as I was under the impression you wouldnt need one.

I loaded the homebrew channel from the  disc as it said it supports usb gecko...all I get is the little gecko down the bottom ...is that the support ?

Plugged usb gecko in to port 2 on wii....open gecko dvd....choose connect....connects fine...select game cube ...then click extract...end up with it just saying extracting game on gecko dvd even after it has finished on the tv screen (green download bar)....file size is only 1,425,760 kb

Also tried this in wii single layer version but always get the resending packet 12aab in gecko dvd program.

Im so totaly lost now...any help would be great as I have bought 4 of these for freinds as on the website it looked so damn easy to use....this is so not true.

The file size problem is to do with the drive code of the D2Sun. Its a complete clone of the Wasabi drive code and has the same error. In Gamecube mode it will always fail packet 12aab

see this thread about it.

http://www.usbgecko.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17&highlight=wasabi

You have 2 options, one is to fit a switch and turn off the mod as soon as GeckoOS is loaded and then rip the DVD.

or use the Wii Mode ripper by MonkeyKF here:

You won't get the 12aab packet problem in Wii mode as the drive code bug is just in Gamecube mode.

One thing to note, that even the image is 1,425,760 bytes it will still burn and play ok, as there is no data in that region of the DVD image.

It is pretty simple once you get the hang of things, but I can't be to blame for faulty modchip code.

Hey Nuke

Thanks for the info...very much appreciated

So Do I still need a memory SD card to be able to run wiirip or can I run it straight from the pc ?

Im a little confused on running the apps and what I need where to get it to run...most tutorials I have seen always mention the SD card method.

Is it best to run the gecko OS from the disc I burnt (placed in the wii then removed to put in the game u want to back up) to the PC (using geckoDVD) and rip that way or is there a better way ?

I noticed that in the info for installing the homebrew channel it says it supports usbgecko (I noticed the little gecko symbol down the right hand side of the screen after installing homebrew and connecting the usb gecko) but I dont quite understand what sort of support.... is it possbile to open hombrew channel...have the game in and rip that way or is that where I would need the SD card with homebrew files on ?

Any help would be great :)

***EDIT****

Ok so I got the SD card and now have everything working

Backed up kungfu panda and everything seemed to be fine....file size was right size.

So I burnt it using imgburn at 2x like in the tutorial...loaded the disc...came up on wii...loaded the start screen...pressed A....then wii caution screen for wiimote came up...pressed A again.....Licensed by nintendo came up....

Then the black screeen saying this was not a wii game disc turn off console and read wii manual ????

What do I do now ???

i have a feeling Kung Fu Panda doesn't boot correctly with GeckoOS.

have you tried booting the backup normally?

Yup....doesnt boot normal way either...does same thing

Tried different media from Ritek G05's to Verbatims....No change

One thing I did notice...after wiirip had completed I got the waiting for PC message but the app on the PC still said extracting game...is it meant to give a message saying completed or something ?
