Ok so im 100% clueless about how to do any of this. I just installed the homebrew channel on my wii and ive hit a wall. I dont know the next step to get the gecko os onto my wii let alone how to use it. Also do you have to keep the files for the homebrew on the SD card? If someone could give me step by step instruction it would be greatly appreciated or link me to something that can help me and explain the basics for someone in my position. I just wanna get codes for Monster Hunter Tri. I dont have USB gecko so i have to use SD card and i have wii version 4.2u. ANy help is GREATLY appreciated because im totally lost.

Thanks in advance for any help =)

First, download GeckoOS, if you haven't already, by clicking on the following link (I will be using this download in my explanation)...

http://wiird.l0nk.org/projectfiles/Gecko1931.zip

That is the latest version (1.9.3.1).  You can find some older versions of GeckoOS on this page...

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/GeckoOS

Now, to run applications on the Homebrew Channel, create a folder on the root of the SD card that is named 'apps'.

Next, unzip the 'Gecko1931' file.  Go into the folder, and go into the 'Gecko1931' folder inside of that one.  From here, go into the next 'Gecko1931' folder.  Now, enter the 'HBC' folder, and you will see a folder named 'Gecko1931', and a file named 'Readme'.  Copy that 'Gecko1931' folder into the 'apps' folder that you placed on the root of your SD card, and GeckoOS 1.9.3.1 should now show whenever you load the Homebrew Channel.

Now, you need to create a GCT file to apply the cheats to the game that you are using.  I personally create these files by using the Wii Cheat Code Manager, although there are other ways to do this now.  Anyway, use the following site to get codes...

http://www.geckocodes.org/

To view the codes listed for Monster Hunter Tri, click here.

Now, at the top of that Monster Hunter Tri page, you should see two options, named 'txt' and 'GCT'.  If you want, you can try to create a GCT file from there by clicking on 'GCT', clicking on 'Add Codes', selecting the codes that you want, and clicking 'Download GCT' at the top or bottom of the page.  I have never made any through that page, so I will explain the way to do it with the Wii Cheat Code Manager...

Download the Wii Cheat Code Manager, and extract the files.  Now, on that same code page, click on 'txt' near the top of the page to download a TXT file of those Monster Hunter Tri codes, and download them to the 'codemgr1.1' folder.  Here is the direct download link to the TXT file...

http://www.geckocodes.org/txt.php?txt=RMHP08

Next, open up the Wii Cheat Code Manager, click on 'File', and then select 'Open TXT file'.  From there, open up the 'RMHP08' TXT file that you see.  Select the codes that you want, and click on 'Export to GCT'.  Select to save to your SD card, and then click on 'Store'.  This will place the GCT file (in this case, it will be named 'RMHP08.gct') in the 'codes' folder on the root of your SD card.  If you do not already have that folder, the Wii Cheat Code Manager will create it for you.  You must keep the GCT file in that folder or GeckoOS will not detect it.

If you decide to try to create the GCT file right off of that site, remember that you must place the generated GCT file in the 'codes' folder on the root of the SD card.

Wow thank you for that. I've been searching all day at work for a simple explanation of what to do but i havent found one. I'll try this when i get off and thanks again for your life saving information =)

Make sure in the code manager you check off the boxes next to the codes then export them to the GCT.

I believe that it should be by default, but just in case, do you have Ocarina on?  Also, are you sure that you are using codes for the correct game?

I don't see why this would matter at all, but what System Menu is your Wii currently at?

Don't worry it works with all menus becuase I've used dop-mii to change the system menu and it works from 3.2 to 4.2 but in 3.3 and higher you cant access channels with gecko. I've posted a guide here(second post): http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum/index.php/topic,5585.0.html , you should skip to step 6 though. If that didn't help try searching a video on the web on how to use codemanager.  ;)

Ok dont know how to check system menu and how do i tell if ocarina is on or off? Ive done everything right its just not recognizing the codes on the SD card. Maybe if i re-format it? will that make a difference? Ive followed both of these guides right on and it doesnt work. Also what hook should i be using? Its been on default the whole time. Thanks for all the help guys really appreciated.

Okay, I'm pretty sure that this is my fault.  On your first post, you mentioned that you have the 4.2U System Menu, so I'm now assuming that you have the NTSC version of the game.  I linked to codes for the PAL version in my first post on this thread.  Try the codes on this page...

http://www.geckocodes.org/index.php?c=RMHE08

The TXT file is located here...

http://www.geckocodes.org/txt.php?txt=RMHE08

If you decide to follow the instructions on my first post again, replace the main code page for Monster Hunter 3 Tri with that first link, and replace the TXT file link with the second link.

Sorry about that, but I'm pretty sure that this will solve your problem.

EDIT:  By the way, the game is Monster Hunter 3 Tri, correct?  I believe that I searched for Monster Hunter Tri on that site, and that is why I accidentally selected the codes for the PAL version.

Yes thats what happened as i just got done fixing the problem. Thanks for your help its greatly appreciated everythings working properly now =)
