37 Views and not 1 reply.....Just after a few pointers not the meaning of life .. :) Just about ready to return gecko as faulty so i could really use some help....

I cannot seem to get my Usbgecko working. I have installed the driver on the disc , But unlike ive seen in some pics in guides, it was detected and installed as a Usb Serial Converter , and not a Usbgecko like ive seen in pics.
I have Enabled the load VCP option in the driver settings ,after reading it in a guide , but havent and dont know where/if /how i would set anything for that.
I have installed Microsoft C+ redistributable package ,Using a link from another thread on here to make sure i had correct version.I have the USBGecko in the Wii's Gamecube memory card slot B , and no memorycard in A slot.
I have the HomeBrew Channel 8 beta installed , With GeckoOS 1.06d. When i run Wiierd Gui and the GeckoOS on the Wii the Wiierd console is frozen and the command line console is stuck in a loop.I tried hook command but it says its busy. When running the command line console on its own it still doesnt work. When loading the homebrew channel the gecko symbol next to the earth in the bottom right doesnt light up. I have established a connection from Pc - UsbGecko , But have had no communication between Wii and UsbGecko.
I wish to use the gecko for remote debugging and cheat codes Ect. I have seen the much linked Youtube video and believe theres some things i may need to do.
Ive been looking on various pages ect for hours before this post.Ive managed to install various modchips to wii's, install channels ect and burn backups without needing help so far , And consider my knowledge of wii's to be a bit mopre than basic , But obviously ive a lot to learn in this field .
Would be very grateful of some help to achieve my goals , and also understand that things cannot allways be made black and white for all . so if needed please PM me or Email [email protected] .Many thanks    WII DEVil

Can't give step by steps but had similar problems myself....

There are updated usb drivers linked to somewhere on this site, i installed them.

The port you have the usb geko plugged into on the wii is probably the wrong one, i had it in the gamecube slot and turns out i needed it in the other (even though some guides said gamecube).

Turn off the VCP option, not needed. (i turned it on temporarily to see if it did anything else too)

Yep, what it displays itself as in your device manager is serial converter...not helpful...even worse is that if you have device manager open during the process of installing/updating the drivers it will flash up as a usbgeko device and then dissappear....not helpful if you think you have a faulty one like i did.

once the above was done i could get wiird to talk to the device and use wiirip to backup my games.

No it wasn't an easy or painless process to get this working, all the guides are either out of date or incomplete or for a particular combination of devices which you are rarely the owner of.

Good luck.

With the USB Gecko in Slot B, do you have the green icon displayed in the bottom left hand corner in the screen when you load GeckOS?
